Saw this on the Today show this morning. That customer service rep just wouldn't take no for an answer. AOL did end up firing him though.

The guy cancelling had a lot more patience than I would have.....I couldn't imagine being talked to like that by a customer service rep........Damn!

They have used that technique for years, but this is of course an extreme version of that. After a firm request to cancel they are supposed to stop, but their top reps usually push it further.

"Close the account or put your supervisor on" could have helped.

I get the feeling the guy had tried to cancel previously as he seemed pissed off from the off.

Bad CS can take years off your life if you let them.

I felt angry just listening to it. Good tape.

It's like the telemarketers. You always have to say no twice for them to give up. This was beyond over the line.

Business as usual for AOL. I had the exact same thing happen almost a year ago. I went through as many CS people as possible, continuously asking for supervisors, but nobody was worth a damn. I ended up going to my CC company to block AOL from billing me. When I called my CC rep, I explained that I'd been overcharged, etc, and the my CC rep said, "Let me guess, AOL." My only regret is starting service with them in the first place.

For AOL that is probably considered good CS. With telemarketers, when I say I am not interested and they keep going, I just hang up on them.
