    Default OT - 6/21/2006 -6/22/2006 Puzzle

So no answer yet for yesterday's puzzle. I won't be providing one until someone solves it. For one last hint: The 0th letter of the alphabet is 'A'. Come on people, get it together!

    And now for today:

    I L♥ve New York!
The Hudson river is approximately 279 miles long. It originates in Lake Tear of the Clouds and discharges into the murky but storied waters of Lower New York Bay. It is home to many varieties of eel, sturgeon, bass, and red herring.

What mythical creature can be found hidden in the source?

Don't take the question quite so literally. Look at the last fish listed. This question doesn't require computations of any sort. Just a little bit of lateral thinking.

I wonder what exactly is meant by "the source"?

Still no solution ... so on another day it goes.

isetcap is on to something. Why might I have used the nonspecific phrase "the source"? If I had meant "its source" don't you think I would have said that?

Congrats to MrX (solved the last puzzle on 6/21 at 13:06:24) and Owned (solved 6/21 at 22:49:06). The answer was "LIBRA". I'll write up a solution tomorrow in case anyone is still working on it.

My answer was somehow incorrect even though it was definately right. I think something is definately wrong with the submit box today.

Don't make me call Spellchecker, Taco.

I would appreciate it if you would define your opinion as to whether the universe finite or infinite.

There may be a slight chance that I'm wrong, though.

Since it's been going for a day, I'll post my thoughts.

I think that everything to do with New York and the Hudson River is one of Ganch's notorious red herrings. So, I think that the imporant bit is:

What mythical creature can be found hidden in the source?

So what mythical creatures can you find in "the source". Orc and roc are not the right answer to this one. Am I on the right lines before I dig out my Encyclopedia of Mythical Creatures to look further?

That's quite clever -- I might use it on another puzzle -- but in this case incorrect.

No comment on the red herring.

I think the irrelevant facts are the 279 miles long and the other fish.

So I'm not the only one who did that... I went as far as looking for the answer in 'Lake Tear of the Clouds'. And could've sworn the answer was Hercules.

The answers are generally given away (once solved) in the following day's puzzle. The answer to this puzzle can be found in this thread:

The answer is between the speech marks in a grey colour font so it's invisible to anyone normally looking at the page. To see the answer, right click on the page and click on "select all" - all the "invisible" text will then be readable.

What Taco said. (Thanks, Taco. )

You could also do a search for the word 'Puzzle' in the title of any thread started by me: http://www.sbrforum.com/search.php?searchid=69728
