Yeah, that 340 foot hr that Victorino hit was a mammoth blast.
If you can't get to the playoffs, why does it even matter? Yanks pitching was bad last year and lost two of their more reliable guys.
That said, they would have been better off with Johan, IMO. Better track record.

i love the yankees but i dont think sabathia will have as much success in the A.L. than he did in the N.L.....they threw too much money and too many years in the contract....i really hope it works out for them

I'm trying to figure out why it's so damn important to people how much any player gets playing in a league without a salary cap? If New York has the money to spend, let 'em do it. Either that or tell the other 29 teams to get off their asses and put their foot down to get something more stringent than this 'luxury tax' joke.

Yankees have always had the spot light, its easy to hate when errors are made. Or the envy for how much money they are willing to shell out without it affecting their bankroll. We even have our own smiley on SBR. --- but seriously, they better get their shit together in the new stadium.

We can take a nap for the next 60 years, no one would ever catch up. We have locked up the "all time" title many years ago, but will continue to snag em in the near future. We will be back on top, with a vengeance. I hope...

T, I think the Yankees WERE the center of what baseball WAS. Not for nothing, the last decade has not been to kind to the NY Yankees. Tough to argue the Red Sox nation hasn't surpassed the Yankees in popularity in the last decade. Not only in the game itself mind you, in entertainment as well. Have the Yankees has a movie based on one of their seasons in the last decade? I think not.

Indeed. The Yankees are paying around the same annual salary as the Mets gave to Johan. They're not in the same class. But, as WB states, money is a non-factor here.

They have won 3 titles in the past decade years, more than most franchises have ever won.
But I do see what your saying, no doubt it has been an ugly stretch for the expectations we have of this ball club.
Hoping next year it starts to turn around for the better.

i dont hate the yanks at all, but it clearly isnt working
they have no minor league players, no system. kennedy? huhges? melky? this is the best they have? they have a bunch of old dh's like matsui, damon, posada, and abreau. they are a garbage defense and a bad mgr. fire girardi and go from there

You can prove anything with selective statistic selection. How many have they won in the past 5 years? How many have the Red Sox won?

The red sox have been on their run as a franchise. Kudos to them.
Now they have 7 titles and currently, a better team.

What a bargain the Yankees got. They only overpaid C.C. by about 30 million dollars.

When will people understand, they don't care about bargains, they care about actually getting the player.
Money is not an issue. They are worth more than any sports franchise in history, and always will. 30 million is CC Sabathia shirt sales to them.
While I agree they over pay for just about everyone, the issue usually is who they pick, not how much they pay each selection.

The question still remains is why did they spend an extra 30 million dollars when they didn't have too? It was pretty clear that their were no other offers over 100 million dollars for his services.
