Congrats Sinister Cat - Beat The Prick Grand Prize winner!!!!
Sweet little $2500 bonus. Great job. Great season. From a group of very sharp players, SC is the sharpest.
SexyMit has second place clinched after an amazing 4-0 for +5 to come out of the pack on the last day. $1500. Clutch performance.
Gerry and jake38 are still watching tonight's game to determine the $1000 3rd prize. Gerry looking for the Ravens cover.

Thanks!
Hope you had your picks hedged today MudCat or at least a little less on them than usual. Great season by you, I really thought you would win it today if you made picks.
Not sure that I'm the sharpest player but I think the game that clinched it for me proved that I was a lucky one.

I did some hedging today. I made ~$1050 on the day. If I had to have such a godawful week, I at least picked the right one. If I had've had the 0-5 previously, I would have been down in the standings and I wouldn't have had the same opportunity.
Make no mistake though, I would rather have lost those hedges and taken the BTP Grand Prize away from you.

When is the last payout of accrued winnings? Sometime this week?
For the record, this is one really cool contest. I netted over $800 this year with a little luck on the weeks I went 3-1 or 4-0, and might have topped 1000 had I not gotten busy a couple weeks and forgot to punch in my plays. I was amazed that some weeks I went 2-2 and still made $50 or so, talk about 'free money.' Another great year of BTP, thanks SBR!

All thanks to SBR for this excellent contest which provides a lot of thrills and some nice scratch to boot.
All hail the new champ, Sinister Cat!

Honorable mention should be made of poster aakj. He actually ended up with the best overall record but wasn't eligible for prize money. Not sure if he is an SBR employee or what the story is there.
Hopefully he was backing his plays with some healthy coin because his picks did great to say the least.

This is quite a dramatic contest. Thanks Mudcat for putting things together, otherwise I won't realize I placed 3rd. I thought there is no chance for me to be placed after the Cowboys screwed up dramatically in the 4th quarter - and SC is actually on the Steelers, both are for best bets!

They should do a "Beat Willie Bee" college baskets contest....
I have seen some of his writeups on CB, and these kinds of contests are great for the site and seem to be alot of fun.

Too bad the contest is ending so early with the NFL just getting interesting. But I guess in past BTP's, this time of year becomes disadvantageous to college players.

Mudcat, do you continue to bet NFL past (approximately) this point in the season? I find that motivation questions throw me off for the last few weeks of the regular season, and then in the playoffs, there are too few games to bet on.. so I pretty much shut it down at this point.

I become much more selective at this time of season. For example, I basically bet all double-digit dogs blind from week 3 up to about week 12 - but towards the end, they become much more iffy. (I was very glad I passed on Detroit and Seattle on Thanksgiving to say the least.)
But really, I am more tentative across-the-board. I didn't have a single bet on a side this past weekend. Just a couple totals.
This is fairly new for me. Just in the last couple years I have been getting more and more aware of the virtue of "just saying no" in later weeks. I don't know if it's me changing and actually learning something, or maybe the industry is changing. In any case, I find a lot less mistake lines later in the season so I just pass.
Those motivation questions you raise could be the main factor. The disappearance of such a large number of Americans from offshore books has also been a recent factor affecting lines (or so I theorize).
I don't seriously bet on the playoffs at all - in any sport. My betting is based on long-term statistical trends and I will never have enough playoff data to satisfy my criteria for a playoff game to become a live bet.
Smaller recreational bets, sure. But not the real thing.

In hindsight, yes.
In reality, it is hard to think of a game I had less statistical basis for.
Regular season home and away games, I understand.
Regular season kinda-sorta-semi-home-games-that-are-really-basically-neutral-site-games, not so much.
Games like that or games in bloody London England, I just leave alone.
