I think the gun laws or whatever charges he's facing are too severe. My understanding is he has a firearms license, but just not a concealed license. Slap on the wrist, he never threatened anyone or displayed it from what we know, he simply 'accidentally shot himself'.

You cannot be licensed to posses a handgun within the city of New York. It is unlawful. I just saw Mayor Bloomburg on TV stating that he intends to have Burress prosecuted to the full extent.

I am in favor of the NYC ban on firearms, it is well known among the people who are here as are the penalties. On the other hand I've always been a fan of states, like Massachusetts, that require a concealed weapons permit as a co-requisite for obtaining a handgun license.
