Default Obama Won - But We're Still Enduring "Racism" Charge in College Coaching

With the resignation (probably forced) of Miss State's Sy Croom, we are, as a black talking head on CBS just opined, "down to only 2 black college head coaches in Div 1-A,and that's absolutely untenable."

In other words, it's RACISM. A concerted plot by the ADs and college presidents to keep qualified black coaches out of head coaching jobs.

The charge is untenable, ie pure BULLSH1T.

Buffalo has a black HC, and they will play Ball St (good luck there!) for the MAC conf championship.

NOW WATCH THE FAT OFFERS THAT STREAM IN TO THE BUFFALO'S HC DESK, FROM BIG BCS COLLEGE PROGRAMS.

Far from racism, we have in the colleges a kind of Reverse Racism. The ADs and col prezez would undergo waterboarding to get a COMPETENT black HC on board, to defer all criticisms.

So, we elected a black prez, but still have to endure this "racism" crap? If Croom had won at MSU he'd still be there. Ditto for Willingham at Wash, Prince at KSt etc

One problem, I think, with black head coaches, is that, strangely enough, they have trouble recruiting both white AND black college football players.

The best of these want to go with a coaching staff that will best prepare them for the NFL (almost all of them have that dream).

And they don't think a black coach can adequately prepare them for that. IE, black players trust a white HC more with their futures than they do a black HC

    spot on...

Show me a black coach that can do the following.
    a. recruit
    b. recruit
    c. has the knowledge to coach
    d. can develop players

Also, most alumni are wealthy white people, who would need to be impressed by this coach. While you talk about Blacks, where is the asian/hispanic argument.

Until you start including all minorities SHUT THE **** UP because your just as racist as your trying to make the others out to be.

hoopster the best candidate should get the job and there shouldnt be whining complaining and racism cards thrown around

bottom line: if those coaches did good they would still be coaching.

    Complete agree.

I am tired of this racist card being thrown around everytime a black person is at the short end of the straw. May the best man win - not because of his/her skin color. I am sure there are more out there who are tired of being politically correct.

Interesting points brought up by both sides. Lean to hoopster42's comment though. A lot of white AD's don't feel comfortable hiring a black because there used to a white running there team. Once more and more blacks are coaching, then the AD won't find it odd hiring a black guy. It is pretty embarrassing for a game that is 60 percent black to have 1 percent of coaches coaching it.

I look to the NBA and marvel at the diversity they have from the players to the coaches to the GM's, to even the owners. That is how you do it.

I expect more black college coordinators to start getting hid gigs as this gets more attention. And they should. I'd hire a new black coordinator over a recycled coach white/black any day.

the only ones that are racist are the ones counting how many of each race are doing what.

if a school hires a coach because he is black to meet some kind of diversity requirement, THAT is racist.

so how about all you race pimps f\*\*k off.

Agreed! Chris Rock thinks everybody owes blacks something. He's one of those blacks who continuously stir the racist pot. Why not? He makes tons of money doing it. But you know what? He's not going to make a single cent out of me.

has anyone here ever been to starkville and the msu campus? if you did, you would understand why nobody (white or black) will ever be able to win there. kids dont want to go to play football there because there is nothing to do there. they got a few supermarkets and a wal mart and a bunch of fukking farming land. kids dont want to play ball there when there is nothing to do around town.

(okay okay, so there is a little bit more than that there, but not much.) this football program will never be any good, i dont give a fuk who is coaching

I think the commentary during the Alabama/Auburn half summed up their position quite well. 70% Black players .06% Black coaches. I have a problem with that.

All this white and black shit is just that bullshit.

Cry that black man doesn't have a job, but what about the asian's or the latino's...I don't see no black man crying about that? Until they bring up there own situation...there own problem...

Black man gets shafted, he saber rattles racism... That's all this stuff comes down to anymore.

All untested coaches get the crappy jobs. Until, just like their paler counterparts, they can prove they can improve the crappy teams.

Gill took a hopeless Bulls team and got them a bowl in but a few years. He deserves a chance at a more promising school ---- and, trust me, he's gonna get it.

The color that counts in the college coaching carousel is GREEN - winning programs mean more money for the schools (like in increased attendance, more sponsorships, more happy and thus generous alumni when it comes to fundraising, more money from bowls, etc)

If there is any place where political correctness is entrenched it's in the nation's colleges. There are many schools lusting for a successful black coach -- but they can't tolerate a loser, he costs them money. Be he white or black.

Ty Willingham was given the Notre Dame job, after taking Stanford (of all teams!)to a Rose Bowl. But he couldn't get it done in South Bend. Mainly because he had trouble recruiting - and one thing ND does well, with all the mystique,is to recruit the top players. And, he totally sucked at Washington. (I think Ty would do well with a high IQ school like Vandy, Duke etc, who, like the Stanfordites, can grasp his complicated offensive schemes. Unfortunately, Duke, Vandy are set for their HC for a few years)

Weis will also be gone if he can't do better than he's done so far.

No coach, college or NFL, was ever fired for winning. (Well, except maybe Buddy Ryan, at least according to this own account)

The only people that I ever hear complaining about racism are black- i find this utterly ridiculous! As someone said before- you don't see people screaming where is the asians or the hispanic coaches...You should get jobs on merit not because you are the best candidate of a certain color- Affirmative Action is the most racist piece of legislation ever.

Every successful coach ever starts on the bottom and works his way up by turning shit programs around.

Do you think Pete Carrol's first job was USC? Mack Browns Texas? Bob Stoops Oklahoma?

They took shitty schools and overachieved moved to another program and did it again.

Black, White, Purple, or Green coaches all get the opportunity to do the exact same thing.

Look at the pros- is Lovie Smith on the hot seat? Tony Dungy? Mike Tomlin? Lol...no but who is? Norv Turner? Ya probably, Marvin Lewis, Mike Nolan (oh wait he WAS fired), Linehan (damn gone too), Herm Edwards?

    See a pattern?

Its not white/black coaches get fired.

Its who wins stays, who losses goes- get it?

And in response for nothing to do in Miss State, there aint anything to do in Lubbock either but look at Tech. Spare me the excuses.

if you are so worried about ratios black to white, what about NBA players. lets look at that.

BUT NO, best player should get it.

same with coaching, get over it and grow up.
