Default BLACK FRIDAY: Store Worker Trampled to Death --This Sh1t Has to Stop

In NY yesterday, a Wal-Mart worker was trampled to death when the store opened, when greed-speed lemmings rushing to get the few "deals" ran over him.

Other shoppers and store workers were also injured.

When the store announced it was closing due to the death, the BF shoppers were irate - they wanted their chance at the deals.

This Black Friday bullsh1t has to cease. The stores advertsing the blockbuster deals usually have only 5-6 of that item, with hundreds of people lined up outside in the early morning hours, waiting to rush in to grab one.

Most people will be disappointed, and get pissed at the store.
How is BF stuff a good public relations or marketing ploy.

I hope the family of the dead Wal-Mart employee sues the store for mega-millions. Ditto for the people injured.

This insanity has to stop. But then again: NO ONE EVER LOST MONEY UNDERESTIMATING THE INTELLIGENCE OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE

What they might have is a lottery, to replace the trample madness.

Come in any time on BF, get a numbered ticket, return Sunday for the drawing for the 5 heavily discounted items.

It was just an isolated incident. There were thousands of stores where it went off without a hitch.

It would be like outlawing internet gambling because someone lost his life's savings and hanged himself (Dac or patty).

Yeah, i mean really. What about concerts? Sporting events? Anywhere there is a crowd there is an occasional trampling death. Unnecessary and disheartening but meh, accidents happen.

Did you guys read the article and see the pictures? The shoppers were acting like cattle and wouldn't even stop to help the guy they were trampling over. Pretty sad.

I wasn't talking about outlawing it.

To me, it's bad marketing.

If YOU stood in a line in the cold from midnite to 5 AM, when the store opened, just to get some electronic sh1t at $200 less than you think you'd pay elsewhere, and were then cut out --- would you have good feelings about that store?

Fact is, in today's buyer's market, that same item will almost certainly be selling between now and xmas at the same price as the BF price

Most of these stores would be half empty even for BF if shoppers knew about deals they can get online. I mean these people were waiting in line for 50" plasmas for $800 but with 30% MS coupon they can get it on ebay for $600 (no tax, free shippping). But most of these people arent savy shoppers or don't have access to the internet.

Or maybe they are just junkies that love the thrill of it all. There was a local reporter that was interviewing these people in line the night before telling them they can order the same item online but they said they would rather wait in the cold for hours.

whats your point? "bad marketing" caused people to act like idiots? did bad marketing cause these people to lose any dignity?

i think the walmart there shouldve known better to expect these people to have a little self respect and respect for other people.
and maybe they shouldve gave out tickets or some shit like that, however its a sad sad world, when walmart has to protect you from yourself because you want to be a irresponsible douchebag.

prison stats are skewed, especially with the 3 for life drug charge. if you legalize marijuana which it should be for various reasons, i can cut your overall prison rate by over a quarter and save the country billions.

Not racist

Stats don't lie they cannot be effective QB's or coaches

Vick would be great as a 3rd down back but not a QB, same with lots of head coaches, they can do well at other postions on the team and be very effective.

You have a point there.

I got an infraction for saying "ignoramus" but people that use racial slurs such as the N- G- & W- words never do. Their excuse always seems to be the same that we need to report them as they never see it, even though it happens in the their own threads.

Mudcat even said they dont consider racism a high priority or even a priority. He would know first hand since he used to work here.

dagger, part of it is because jj gets people to visit the forum. pays for him to say more outrageous things because it gets more people here.

i was hoping more from jj instead of turning into the token racist white guy on the forum and dropping himself down that far just for a reaction, but jj likes the attention and SBR wants people to say damn he said that I've got to come here to read it.

sad commentary on our society. one of the reasons I'm for internet regulation. you want to say what's really on your mind, your name and address will be attached to that. will get rid of that anonymous poster behind a username talking like he can take anyone, and say whatever he wants, typical rhetoric, etc.

dr03,

You have seen his act a lot longer than i have so I'll take your word for it. He does seem to carry a lot of clout here, especially from the mods. Maybe they should name him MVP Poster or something.

you want internet regulation to get rid of anonymous posters?

sounds like to me you shake at the thought of internet bullies. its ok kid. theyre not going to hurt you.

or maybe you think people should be censored because they post stuff that you disagree with and youre too weak in your own position to debate it so you want some higher authority to shut them up.

whatever the case, anyone that wants internet regulation is sadly either ignorant or corrupt.

Flawed analogy.

"Occasonal?"
Really? Some Big Ten games draw 100,000 spectators. Could you cite the last time an "occasional" trample death occured in one of them?

The reason concerts and sports events DON'T usually have this happen is that they don't encourage herd behavior, like WalMart and other non-lottery BF stores do.

I've never been at either a concert or sports event where the venue advertised that they would open at a certain hour, and that the first 50 people to get to their seats would win free season's tickets, or $500.

That in effect is what WalMart is doing.

Were I on the jury I'd not only give the family of the dead person the full amount asked for, but would try to convince my fellow jurors to award them One Billion Bucks as punitive damages. So that Wal-Mart would think twice about explointing the herd.

Stupid people are frequenty in modern societies protected from themselves. With guard rails on bridges, signs warning of a dangerous dog, at zoos not to get close to the lion cage, by states who require that prospective drivers be tested to prove competency behind the wheel before getting a licence ----- the list goes on.

I recall talking to an extreme libertarian who was opposed (among other things) to all traffic laws. I asked him if he was therefore OK with an unlicenced drunk driver speeding back and forth on his street while his little girl played in the front yard.

He (for once) had no answers.

(BTW, I would not make any laws to prohibit BF nonsense - I just hope the jury in the oncoming suit makes them pay thru their collective corporate noses)

you criticize one person for having a flawed analogy, then come up with your own flawed analogy in the same post.

so when the drunk driver hits and kills the little girl, who is responsible? using your logic, the last person responsible would be the drunk driver.

using your logic,
maybe the father can sue the state for allowing people to drink.
maybe he can go after the bar the guy was drinking at.
maybe he can go after the maker of the beer he was drinking.
maybe he can go after the state for not forcing all cars to have breathalyzers to be able to drive them.
maybe he can go after the maker of the car's brakes because the car didnt stop in time.
the list can go on and on in your world.

how about we hold those that are truly responsible for the actions accountable instead of trying to blame their actions on somebody else.

and if i didnt know any better, i'd swear youre just an anti-walmart tool.

I don't get your point.

The law would deter the drunk from driving on that street. One call and they'd be out to arrent him.

The father may sue, but he'd likely give everything he owns first, including his last dollar, to get his kid back from the grave. His main interest would be to keep the drunk off his street in the first place - even if he had to go out and pound the sot into oblivion.

The guy I know was part of the "sovereign" movement. In some states these folks don't even get licenses or registrations, instead quoting from their intrepretion of the law to do as they please. Nice utopia.

Sure, there are too many laws in this socieity, and as we (inevitably) become more of a widespread and "diverse" empire, the laws will multiply.

"Common law" works best in societies that have a common ethnic and cultural heritge. IE, it will no longer work in modern America!

(BTW, the Sovereignty people do make some good critical points. The guy I referred to tried to get several banks to take his large balance checking account without paying interest, if they would but print his name on the check in non-capital letters, ie, cap J and then ames. Etc. They wouldn't.

He said it was because they wish to create a "straw man," so you will if effect surrender your constitutional rights. All very arcane, but interesting (to a point!)

He also said that if you get a good magnifying glass and look at the dotted line on which you sign your name on the check, you'll get a surprise . . . . . it's not a dotted line, but ultra-fine small print where again you are surrendering your rights.)

What about all the money stores make on BF, usually the biggest shopping day of the year, alot of stores don't even turn a profit until the end of the year selling craze. Of course they only stock 5-6 items that's b/c it's just simply a give away they make no or negative profit on those items but it brings in thousands of customers at 5 am of which 99% won't get one of those give away deals but will buy one of the regular TVs or computers and fill the registers, hell if you got up at 2 am waited 3 hours in the cold to buy a TV wouldn't you be very likley to buy a TV regardless of whether you got the sale one or not? I mean once you have missed out on the 5 or 6 sale TVs that were gone in 20 secs it's just like you are there on any other day and shopping for a TV
