    Default OT - 6/11/2006 Puzzle

Yesterday's answer was 'Ashley'. First place to MrX, second place to isetcap, and a very honorable mention to Mudcat. Now on to today:

    Later!

Major League Baseball is really starting to catch on in Europe. In fact, a large European company just launched a marketing campaign that involved sending its CEO to America to throw out the first pitch at a few different games. (Of course he disguised himself and used a different pseudonym each time.)

On his first trip he threw out the first pitch at the following games:
    1. Mets @ Braves
    2. Tigers @ White Sox
    3. Angels @ Twins
    4. White Sox @ Royals
    5. Angels @ Rangers
    6. A's @ Royals
    7. Reds @ Cardinals
    8. D'Backs @ Reds

    On his second trip:
    1. Red Sox @ Mariners
    2. Nationals @ D-Backs
    3. Mets @ Astros
    4. Mets @ Braves
    5. Phillies @ Pirates
    6. D'Backs @ Nationals
(That last game turned out to be a bit of problem. The information the marketing department had was rather dated and so he never actually made it to the game. In fact, he wasn't even in the right country at the time.)

    On his third trip:
    1. Yankees @ Twins
    2. Tigers @ Royals
    3. Cardinals @ Astros
    4. Marlins @ Braves
    5. Mets @ Reds
    6. Cubs @ Brewers
    7. A's @ Twins

And finally on his last trip:
    1. Rockies @ Pirates
    2. Mariners @ Devil Rays
    3. Yankees @ Blue Jays

    Who founded the company?

Richard Branson, at least he would be able to hop on one of his jets to get him from A-to-B for all of those 1st-pitch ceremonies.

    Wot's all this then?

Oh boy. So if we're spelling a person's name similar to yesterday, it looks like there are too many stops to use one letter from each. Unless it's a long name. But maybe it is necessary to focus on just the AL or NL stops. I see there are a few cities he visited more than once. Maybe that's important.

But maybe we're not spelling a person's name at all. Maybe it's a whole different kind of logic.

You're actually sort of thinking along the right lines here.

Do you really think I'd make it that easy two times in a row?

It's getting late so perhaps a hint is in order:

Consider how the CEO would be flying from game to game...

    Hmmm...

If you trace each path it seems to form a letter. A, U, O, V. I'm not sure of the significance of this.

Nice leg work RickySteve. It led me to 'Audi' which was founded by 'Horch'

Here's a classic I'm sure alot of you have heard.

Two hikers hiked 5 miles south of camp. They then hiked 5 miles west where they shot and killed a bear. They then hiked 5 miles north directly back to camp.

    What color was the bear?

You know, I think I first read that one in an old Encyclopedia Brown book. The answer (geomagnetic realities aside) is of course 'white'.
