Default i'm the sports editor around here, correcting stupid mistakes

crazyl calls pittsburgh the best D in the nfl, and i have to remind him that tennessee gives up 13.1 per game, and the steelers 15

crazyl starts a thread that the colts line has gone from +3 to +1 this morning, when in actuality the line has been sitting at +3 and +2.5 across the board since sunday night, no line move to +1 at all

you all make so many mistakes its hilarious, and a little frightening

Pitt actually does have the number one D. Thanks for trying though.

Pinnacle's line has moved from +3 Sunday evening to +1 at this moment. Just sayin'.

last time i checked, pts given up per game decides who the #1 defense is, not some stupid equation devised by some random nfl site

tennesee titans at 13.1 per game given up = best defense in the nfl

Are you the kind of guy who measures pitching success by wins as well?

Last time I checked, that's some of the stupidest logic I've ever heard. If a team's QB throws a bunch of pick sixes, that makes the defense worse?

look up the special teams td's and defense returns (fumbles and ints) given up tennessee and pittsburgh and then come back and talk to me

tennessee is 10-0 and gives up 13.1 per game

they have the best defense in the nfl,

period

end of discussion

Uh, you realize that offenses affect how many points are scored on a team too? Using pts/game over DVOA to quantify who the best defense is is as absurd as using wins over any DIPS to quantify pitching ability in baseball.

if you determine defense on yds given up, and stats like that, you will lose tons of money

anyone worth a shit of knowledge about the nfl knows that POINTS GIVEN UP PER GAME is the most important statistic when determining how good a defense is

no wonder sports books are kicking your asses in the nfl again this season

defenses can give up yds between the 20's, but its how they tighten up IN THE RED ZONE THAT MATTERS

tennessee gives up the fewest pts per game of any team in the NFL

they are the best defense because they are the stingiest in giving up pts, period

Your football knowledge appears to be on par with your baseball knowledge. If you think DVOA is just a "stupid equation devised by some random nfl site", you are sorely mistaken.

Is English not your primary language?

"DVOA is the acronym for Defense-adjusted Value Over Average. The original Football Outsiders statistic, it was created by Aaron Schatz, and has since seen several updates. The statistic measures the success of a given play, then compares it to the league-average level of success for that play given the situation at the time (score, time remaining, down and distance to go, location on the field, caliber of opponent, and so on). The system is applied to every play of the season, to provide DVOA rankings both for individual players and teams as a whole.

In all cases, a DVOA rating of 0% is equivalent to league-average performance. Positive DVOA numbers represent above-average performance by the offense and below-average performance by the defense, while negative numbers represent the opposite."

This is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. No, no, no, no, no. Points/game is not the most predictive statistic in the NFL.

I give up.

and i guess peyton manning is only the 16th best qb

because he's got the 16th highest quarterback rating!

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/statis...on=2&year=2008

do you see how ridiculous a statement that is? no way that manning is not in the top 3 qb's in the nfl, if not the overall best

you guys who are dropping some stat equation about defense are missing the obvious fact

after 10 games of play, it is clear that the titans at 13.1 pts per game given up are the best D in the nfl
