That mom and pop stuff is very overrated,if you like food prepared in a clean environment.you have to be real careful with some of the smaller places. Most have very bogus 3 or 4th italian generation roots

The days of great local pizza parlors seem to have really diminished in the boston neighborhoods I have been in.alot of the families are third or fourth generation italian families and very americanized, none of those real Neapolitan ingredients and the pizza tastes alot like the chains.

Of the chains I would go with shakeys for the entertainment at least,an old lady on the organ and silent films playing. That place was the greatest.

Cheeseboard Pizza in berkeley...best pizza i ever had, place is so legit

get this.. they are only open a few hours a day and they only make one kind of pizza in a day. Every day they make a new kind of pizza.

Not your typical pizza joint but the weird shit they make is the best

No mention of Little Caesar's $5 Large Pepperoni pizzas? Waiting for you already cooked at lucnhtime everyday? I practically lived off those things when I was in college, nothing else came close to that volume of food for the price.

I don't like any of the chains. Find yourself a place with a mom and pop italian couple. They are easy to find, here is what to look for.

1. The mustache on the mom is thicker than Geraldo's.
2. No matter what time you go in the place, there is always a soccer game on the T.V.
3. No one who works there is over 5 foot tall.
4. When you call, the guy answers the phone with,"Yeah, what you got?"

All those fast food pizza joints suck. I can somewhat tolerate Papa Johns.

just because it's a chain doesn't mean they are more sanitary. the "chain" still hires some dude to make 'zas that makes about $6.50 an hour, and probably couldn't care less about sanitation, or the "chain's" reputation.
and yes, Domino's = cardboard
if you HAVE to eat chain pizza, order the HAWAIIAN BBQ chicken from Papa John's or the Meat Lover's from P.H.
they are both solid options if you must go chain.
