I have a prepaid Visa debit card, not from a real bank, that I use primarily for gambling purposes because I don't want to do any gambling transactions mixed in with my main Bank Of America and SunTrust accounts.
On Monday somebody racked up $650 on the card in a few separate transactions somewhere in England (the card wasn't stolen - I live in Florida, so I'm not sure how). Anyways, I called the card # to report them as fraudulent and in my claim they say that I have to include a police report. They insisted on it, normal banks wouldn't, but these guys are morons. Well here's this thing, is that if I'm going to file a police report the only thing I can bring as a testimonial for my case is obviously my account statement. And on this account statement 98% of the transactions are gambling related, ie. they say in big bold letters BET JAMAICA, etc. Would this be opening a big can of worms that I don't want on my hands by filing a police report (ie. letting the world know I have a dirty habit) or should I just call this a loss and move on (considering it's file police report or I can't report fraudulent charges)? |

Hrmmm thats a tough one... Have you considered copying the statement and blacking out the gambling transactions on account of them being "personal"? This gives rise to similar suspicion but w/o actual knowledge the can of worms might be at least smaller...

I agree with Big Joe, I load the card and than get home and let BetJ unload it, nothing left on the card.

I pay my taxes and am a law abiding citizen, I just like to keep this stuff a little separate on the DL. I'm fairly certain the police couldn't make anything out of it, but would I really want to find out? Quote:

Anyone and anyone can file a police report. Its not what you show them or don't show them. Its the fact that you do it that counts

a prepaid visa.from where? netaccess, walmart, visa had great ways of tracking fraud ,even on their prepaid cards.Wherever you obtained the prepaid visa should be the people you are dealing with.
No local law enforcement anywhere in the country is set up to deal with credit card fraud or identity theft. They would just take the report and do nothing with it.They dont have the means or the time to go into credit card fraud and identity theft. Its why the crime is so prevalent. I would approach someone higher up at the card company,a police report is seldom needed or even taken in most cases. |

actually UPS tried to tell me i had to file a police report for a lost package, my response was...
How do I know you even delivered it to me. UPS reasoning was so they could claim it as stolen on insurance. I told them to **** off and eat it. Imagine you can submit a claim yourself, it will take some time for it to be reviewed...sometimes its easier to go along than get along though.

That's why this is so strange, this isn't the first time I've had to report fraudulent charges. A few years ago it happened on one of my real accounts and they sent me a form to fill it out and notarize and that was about it. I guess it's because this is not a real bank and/or they don't know what they're doing. I have no idea. I've never heard of filing a police report, hence the dilemma. Mine is (or I should say WAS, after this, I'm not sure I will be using them anymore) wiredplastic.com. I'm not accusing a book of selling my CC# but I wouldn't be surprised - that was my first inclination as well - because obviously these are the only places I was using the card. That is why I'm most likely not going to be using this method any further. Although it was convenient it's just not worth the hassle. As far as filing a police report I've considered the replies and thought it over some more and I can't see it happening. I'm going to send the proper information to dispute the charges and see what happens without the police report. I'd really just rather not get involved with any type of agencies if possible as one thing could lead to another. Last edited by fireal; 11-18-2008 at 09:11 PM.. |

yeah you don't want to lie to police, but you don't need to file a police report. Now would be a good time to read over the TOS of the card and disputes.

I seriously doubt BET JM would sell info! Get another card and load only what you plan to immediately use! Did you try and contact the merchant in England to see whats going on? |
