Default Should Chauncey Billups be consider one of the best guard ever?

I say yes. He never turns over the ball and slows the game down . Too many big time shots over the years. Very physical and fast, using his strengh to push around other guards. His stats are not the best but hey he wins.

Very under-rated player, IMO. It's not all about how many points you score to win games. Ast/TO ratio is key and also defense is very key as well. I would take him over a guy like Nash (who has two MVP's) who can't play defense to save his life, that is for certain.

I made a thread about this a while ago.

Personally, I think the guy may very well be the best player of all time.

Whenever I see a ESPN rank them poll of the greatest guards ever, Chauncey Billups has always been on their rank em poll for the last 4 or 5 years. People might rank him low on the near bottom but hey it is a previlage to be on a ESPN all time great poll no matter if you are near the bottom or top. However this is about 2-3 years ago. I am sure he will move up the rankings now. He kinda reminds me of a Joe Dumars, did not have the best stats but made it to the Hall of Fame on first ballot.

I used to go watch Chauncey play at George Washington High School around 1995-96. He was so ****ing good then. I remember when he shocked everyone by committing to Colorado. It was thought that he had them on the list just as a courtesy and that he was going to UNC or Kansas.

Lets not get carried away with him being the best player of all time. I must admit he is the most physical guard probably of all time but far from the best player. He is the best at the half court game and slowing the tempo of the game down to his team advantage. Very good at wearing out other guards by bullying them He reminds me of a Pitbull bully that does not back down!!!.

i wouldn't say greatest, or be on a list of greats. If you want to say in the past 10 years, he might be a top 20. now don't get me wrong, he is a solid guard, does all the intangibles, but won't ever get the credit of high profile guards that are in the lime light.

I remember when i played in a fantasy league with a bunch of guys i worked with, we had a draft at some guys house the year he was a rookie, we each had to have 2 rookies on our roster, i remember when i took him, over some other big name rookies and people were making fun of me. well they turned out to be right, i thought because Pitino was at Boston he would use him. didn't use him so much, but he still turned out to be the type of NBA guard i thought he could be, just not at Boston.

All these are better than Billups:

Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Deron Williams, Chris Paul, and Baron Davis.

Billups was a journeyman (5 teams in 7 seasons) that found a niche with the Pistons. I have a hard time putting him in the same league with Magic, Isiah, DJ, Payton, Stockton, and other greats.

Fiction. Baron Davis is a chucker and isn't in his league. Nash plays absolutely no defense. Kidd and him are neck and neck, but Billups has the ring.

Deron and Paul too young to call.

In other words, because ESPN hasn't force-fed you him he'll never be worthy of being mentioned as one of the all time greats at his position?

for me personally, i think he is a solid guard and one of the top 20 to play his position in the past decade. But he is not ever going to be on my list of top 20 for All-Time.

now for the masses. because like i said , he is not a high profile player, isn't "Marketed", you will probably never see him ranked in mags or tv as being one of the all-time greats.

that's just how i see it.

What do those players have? All of players are good but they do not have the winning attitude Billiups has. Billiups pushes all those guards around. Deron Williams and Chris Paul are good but have never won nothing.

I just looked at Billiups stats and they are average at best. Best his winning and popularity will make him to the hall of fame. Joe Dumars did not hall of fame numbers but made it to the Hall of Fame on first ballot because his winning and stop Jordan early in his career.
