Question is this smart? getting 30k for 200 in fees

0% apr promotional offer on balance transfer. i can transfer 30k to my bank account for 8 months with 0% apr and one time service fee about 200 dollars. that is less than 1% in interest.

play it safe, i can put 30k in to FDIC insured CDs for 6 months. free money. as long as i remember to pay the min every month.

or i can put extra 30k in sports accounts.

With the CD, you need to account for the tax on interests. If you can, put it on automatic payment, so you will never be late. The interest rate goes to insane heights if you are late on anything.

chase. i had the cards for years now. this is the first time i am getting this offer. might as well transfer my entire balance. i can use my other credit cards.

if i do it, i'll take out 30k and only put 25k for books, and keep 5k for paying the minmum.

i used to do this every year with about 10 cards. they didn't used to charge fees and a couple years ago some savings accounts were paying as high as 6% in 6 month promotional period accounts.

now i have like 50 credit cards. 0 balances on all of them and a great credit score.

Every once in a while I use my spotless credit to get some 0% apr on cash advances for 9mo. card (hard to find) take the advance for the max and CD it for 6mo. 20k gets me $400. Prolly boils down to less than $20/hr. all the time I spend obsessing over it which is far less than my pay grade. However, there is something satisfying about "scamming" the system.

I would play it safe and put it in a cd. You don't want to fund online accounts and have a bad streak and have to pay interest on the 30k. For every person like you that does this, there are 9 others that don't pay it off and end up paying the interest.

Kind of like the best buy no interest for 24 months when I bought appliances. I made sure I paid it off in time, but I bet many have good intentions of paying it off on time and something happens and they end up paying for all that interest that accrued.
