A former NFL lobbyist now working at the White House has been linked to an effort to finalize regulations to enforce UIGEA before Bush leaves office. This is a clear conflict of interest since the NFL has actively opposed all forms of Internet gambling except fantasy sports.
Here is a great piece in the Washington Post on the situation: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wpdyn/...adlines&sub=AR Thanks. Jeffrey Sandman Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative Web: www.safeandsecureig.org Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Safe-a...ve/22884927809 |

UIGEA is not a "internet gambling ban"
It is a law that has to do with money processors and banks, and has nothing to do with the player. Im just making a distinction here. Im perfectly happy with the NFL and the govt thinking and saying this is an internet gambling ban, but in reality, it makes it more difficult to move money but has nothing to do with criminality for the player. I know that wasnt your point, just clarifying the title of the thread.... |

I would assume lobby for/against certain copyright, trademark, gambling, drug, pension, union, media broadcast, international trade laws, etc.

William Wichterman, who with others at the Covington & Burling law firm earned $2.8 million lobbying for the NFL against Internet gaming and on other matters from 2004 through March, is working on the gambling restrictions in the White House Office of Public Liaison, White House spokesman Dana Perino confirmed yesterday.

Thanks for updating my link DaggerKobe, and jjgold, the UIGEA has already been enacted (in 2006), the Bush Administration and specifically this former NFL Lobbyist are now trying to implement this badly written law.

This is not a conflict of interest. The former lobbyist is probably considered an expert at the white house regarding this issue. Example of conflict of interest is like when a judge is presiding over a murder and the murderer is his cousin.
