Default interesting quote from obama rally

i was at the rally in chicago last night and saw two girls with home-made posters that read:

"rosa sat so MLK could walk

MLK walked so Obama could run

Obama ran so our children could fly"

slightly cheesey yes...but it was pretty good I thought

I saw a lady say this on TV yesterday.

I really liked it too. Because thats how things happen. No man is an island. And thats how people from the past are always with us. Even ones that are not famous.

Of course, how much positive has been accomplished for blacks or peoples in general over that time frame is up for debate.

Not trying to start an argument here but this election was very much based on race. You can say all you want that it wasn't but it surely was.

Now that he won fair and square and the people have spoken, I may not agree with most of what he stands for but I sure hope he does well for our sake.

Obama won because Bush was a total fcuk up. Y'all can spin this however you want to in order to make things feel all warm and fuzzy inside your little brains, but the proof is in the puddin' and this was as much a referendum against Bush as it was anything else.

True.

If Obama was white he may have won Georgia and many other states, he overcame the "handicap" of race and people who wouldn't vote for a black man.

It's not like America is a right-leaning country, the Dems have won 4 of the last 5 popular votes.

this election wasnt about race, it was about change.....

Finally people getting out to vote, to let their voices be heard that they wont stand for this same old bullshit in washington...And yest Bush had a lot to do with it..

But anyone with a brain that watched Obama's acceptance speech should be able to tell why he won (or at least a big part of it). That man can speak, and is inspiring as all hell.

Either way I didnt put this thread up here to debate politics haha, just thought the quote was cool

the qoute I found hilarious was the anchor man at the Obama acceptance speech.
"I think this is the first time I have ever smelled pot being smoked at a presidential acceptance speech"
yes this is true, I have tried to find it on youtube but couldnt. I'm sure someone will put it up soon.

this was not an attact on 'Bama but something that was funny as hell

He won't be any different then Bush. Obama is a great speaker when scripted. It was for sure about race. 92% of Africans voted for him. When asked if they would vote for Obama given McCains policies some said it sounded great.

Race had nothing to do with the outcome of this election even though it was an important and historical issue; if it had been relevant I think Hillary Clinton would have ran for president instead of him; and we all in deed hope he does well, time will tell.

STFU Deucebag.

Go take the $1100 tax break Obama gives you and buy a clue.

This election was definately about Bush not race. Just look at the Hispanic voters, they were the reason Bush was reelected in 2004.... yet they overwhelmingly voted for Obama. Over 70% of Hispanic voters felt Bush was a horrible president.

there is no denying that for some people this election was about race. The great part is that is wasn't for everyone.

Black people voted for Kerry in 04, so them voting for Obama in 08 isn't exactly mindblowing.

I do think that quote is great, there's an awful lot of people who worked, bled and died for Tuesday night that didn't get to see it

There was a story on a 100 year old woman who voted for the first time. She said she was glad she got to vote for a black man before she died. For her it must have been about race. But like I said, it obviously wasn't for everyone and that is great.

this election had nothing to do about race, didnt you watch any of the post elections interviews with Spike Lee, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Lebron James, Michael Irvin, and I think it was Carmelo who dedicated his game last night to Obama
maybe it wasnt about race to some of the white folks( small %) but your kidding yourself otherwise

When did Obama ever put his race out there as a "vote for me" tool?

It's significant after the fact because in the election race didn't matter one bit. He's not a black President, he's a President who's black.

Obviously for african americans it's a big deal that an african american was elected president...but that's not to say that's why he won.

You must be out of your mind if you think someone can win an election BECAUSE he's black.

I was at the rally on monday and there were more white people than african american people...I did smell pot though haha

I think we are kind of saying the same thing. That sure there were some who voted one way or the other because of race but it wasn't the majority of people. And no matter what side of the issues you are on, that is a positive to carry away from this election.

Sure, or how Carter won in 1976 because of the whole Watergate issue that led to the Ford eventually taking over in the White House.

okay, now i get it

when a republican wins its because he's the best candidate

but when a democrat wins, its because the incumbent republican has done a shit ty job

i get it now

john f kennedy and bill clinton got lucky too

thanks for clearing that up

hoopster, are you just having a bad day today or something? That's not what I said or meant. And the fact you assume that I am a hardcore elephant, then you really have no clue and you haven't been following a damn thing I've said about this most recent election.

Oh, and congratulations again.

You think there will be tax breaks????

Maybe for those who don't pay taxes, but that's called welfare.

sounds like someone else is having a bad day

when i read your post, at first i thought it was bigboydan because it was so harsh and so bitter

obama won over 50% of the popular vote, the first time this has happened for a democrat since 76 when carter did it. i'm sure this had quite a bit to do with his charisma and popularity, it was a brilliantly run campaign, but most republicans cannot give credit where its due

complete sour grapes

of course the incumbent doing a crappy job matters, how do you think clinton became so popular in 92, itwas the same thing with reagan in 1980
