A duel for the ages. I just beat Bread +2.95 to +2.89. What a duel! He trailed me +3.95 (5-1-1) to -.11 (3-3). Knowing that he had to go 4-0 I was only making one pick more no matter what. Well, he went 4-0... no he didn't! He canceled his Pistons -6 bet apparently not realizing that that automatically gave me the win. The Pistons covered but he canceled his pick.

I was at work away from computers. When I got home I checked all the games. I saw all four games had gone his way so I posted saying "congrats." Then I see that he canceled his Pistons pick so I do math. Not realizing that every pick is to win one unit I thought he had beaten me +3.12 to 2.95 (due to the Steelers being +123). Then I see that all plays are to win one unit, so I won +2.95 to +2.89. What a roller coaster!

That's true of favorites but the terms on dogs are as follows (per round 1 rules and info thread).

That wasn't my understanding. I saw it explained like a +1.23 bet means that you're wagering .8 units or whatever. Crap.

Congrats Bread. If that wasn't the rule then you wouldn't have canceled the Pistons bet and you would have won anyway.

You realize that keeps the hail mary effect in play. In a close contest a +123 line is the equivalent of a hail mary.

Anyways, in this case he wouldn't have canceled his Pistons bet if the rules were different so he would have won anyway.

Thanks but I wasn't clear on the rules so I lost. To add insult to injury, the Clipper game wasn't listed for the contest so I couldn't have picked it even if I was home and I wasn't.

I canceled the Pistons bet only because the rule existed, and the way the scoring works, it was more advantageous for me to try to go 2-0 instead of 3-0. But like you say, I would've hit that one too.
