A bad line could decide the SBR 128 round 1
This is not management's fault but the Spurs-Blazers game was listed as Spurs -1 in the daily lines. As probably everyone here knows, the Spurs were listed as a 1 to 2.5 favorite everywhere almost immediately.
More people made picks on this game than any other game for the first day and to have it graded as a push is a travesty, imho. This bad line will probably change the result of a duel or two, considering how many people picked the game.
I'm not blaming anyone but I need to vent. I had Portland -1.

You play the games at the lines theyre listed at. If you got a bad number its your own fault.

True. If the moneyline would have been posted, I would have taken the moneyline. If we wanted Portland in this contest we had to take -1.
Actually, what makes me more upset is that the people who got the Spurs +1 lucked out and I'm sure that that will be the difference in a duel or two.
It's just a case of good luck or bad luck I guess.

Actually, the people who's opponents took San Antonio +1 should be most upset, imho. They got screwed and it had nothing to do with them.
Again though, it's not management's fault, it's just a frustrating part of the competition.

Would you have taken Portland ML -120 if it was available instead of Portland -1 -108 (or whatever it was)? I would have because I'm the most careful kind of bettor.

I just needed to vent. I went to take a nap when the Clips/Nuggets Spurs/Blazers games were at the half. I had the Clips +1 in the contest, they were up by 18 at half. They lost in overtime. I thought Portland was gonna win, they did, by 1, I get a push. To add injury to insult, the Clips lost because they lost Baron Davis in the second quarter. No way they lose the game if he doesn't get hurt.

So?
It works both ways. If you're smart, take advantage of the stale lines.
Almost all contests on the forums use stale lines (Beat The Prick is one of the few exceptions). In this particular contest, with so many entrants, there's no way around it.

Most importantly, it was not a "bad" line. It was the actual line at the time that CrazyL potsed the lines.

Yeah. What really hurts is that the ML wasn't available. I guess that's part of the rules for this contest? No moneylines? It would have been really interesting for this particular game. How many of the Spurs backers would have taken Spurs +110 or whatever and how many would have taken Spurs +1? I would have been on Portland ML if it was available. It makes me sad. Oh well, on to tomorrow.

No it's a terrible idea to play the ML with a one-point favorite. Sure it played out that way last night, but in the long run, one-point favorites don't win by exactly one point often enough to justify laying an extra 10 cents on the ML.

I think Crazy made the no ML plays clear. All side/totals.. Plain and simple.

And getting back to this contest, you are right, it is sides and totals only, no MLs

I was tracking it and Spurs +1 was the most popular play for day one of the contest. I just wonder how many of those people would have taken Spurs ML. We'll never know and it doesn't matter.
I can see why they would ban moneylines. A lot of people have lost in the past because only because their counterpart hit a big dog. I remember one guy picking a big tennis dog and saying something like "I have no idea who this tennis player is but it's the biggest dog out there", well, he hit it and won! It's really not fair to allow that in a contest like this, imho.

You are right, those that liked the Blazers would have bet -1 (push) and those that liked Spurs would have bet ML (lost), so nobody would have won.

Just to clarify, I would have taken the Blazers ML. I realize it's bad long term but remember, the first round only lasts for 8-10 picks. The ML is worth it, imho.

The rules are different this time. No ML's, no soccer, no tennis. It's a shame that these two world liked sports are not factored in a worldwide contest.

Its because they don't want any hail marys to hit like last time. So many people advancing going 1-6 +6.7 units hittingan +1100 ML long shot. I understand the strategy and I like the way they are doing it this time. Who ever wins more games moves on. No who ever gets lucky and hits a big dog.
