Dan,

I have bet the following:

$5 WPS on Brother Derek
$5 WPS on Like Now

$4 box trifecta on Brother Derek, Like Now and Barbaro

Good luck. Sweetnorthernsaint doesn't do it for me but certainly has a shot to win.

The pattern over the last year would point to Barbaro winning. Then a longshot pure closer wins the belmont. That is why I will be playing Jazil again in the belmont and will put a couple hundred on Barbaro to win if I can get even odds and probably a $50 straight perfecta over Brother Derek. Wimpy but my big play is the next race.

I agree with pic a little on this one, but I'm also liking SweetNorthernSaint.

What exactly is this thing they call the preakness?

Is this that thing that people only care about 3 days of the entire year and willing to bet on.

Folks, unless you have an information advantage, what's the point?

Handicapping horses will yield some of the best returns for your wagers.
2005 Preakness payouts.

2 Afleet Alex $8.60 $5.00 $3.20
18 Scrappy T $11.20 $5.80
13 Giacomo $4.80

Anyone who was "lucky" enough to include Giacomo in the 05 Derby picks also had a nice payout.

i ended up putting a unit on Sweetnorthernsaint to win.

Why would you put money on a 3/5 shot? The price is too short. I went with brother derek over barbara, sweet, and greeleys

I'm far from a horse racing expect, so I put a few bucks on dan's horse Sweetnorthernsaint.

Sorry for the bum advice, gentlemen. That has to be the strangest race I've ever seen. The fact that Brother Derek never fired in the stretch is really strange to me along with the horrible Barbaro fracture and the Barbaro false start.

I think the thing that threw this race into Bizarro world was how Barbaro came up lame. No one can ever predict that to happen. In the final 1/4 mile of that race, Sweetnorthernsaint was really leakin oil bad and he still came in 2nd. Brother Derek was a non-factor and Bernardini was never on my radar.

Gotta re-huddle for the Belmont. I gotta believe this field is going to be stacked now that Barbaro is out of the running. Should be a fun race.......

I wonder if when Barbaro hit Brother Derek if anything happened. These racers are so paperthin in the legs a slight tap could break their legs. IT is sad really. BD came out of the gate poorly and lagged back. He went wide and then was whacked down by Barbaro. I think he got back too early and then was forced so wide he had to make a premature run and got caught wide again. Game over.
