Djibouti.

It's Djibouti, Djibouti.

No real point here. I just like saying Djibouti Djibouti.

I suppose in the spirit of the thread which pico is presenting - i.e. names that are not very accurate descriptions of reality - you could point to the United States of America. I have not been feeling a lot of Unity down there for a number of years.

Personally I find Micronesia kind of funny. I'm sure that is more about my brain than the actual name. I get this mental picture of going for a visit and being surrounded by people who are really, really tiny.

Sometimes I wonder how the female residents feel about the name Wales. People might say, "I am going to Wales," or, "I have been to see Wales."

"Hey wait a second," they must want to say, "who you calling whales?"

Funniest planet is Uranus. Wonder if Djibouti has plans to colonize it in the future.

For me the funniest is Central African Republic. Are they really telling the world that all the good names were already taken? Do they really refer to themselves as Central African Republicans?

Well I know one thing, which is "Guinea" wasn't on the list of available names. What the hell is with that name anyway? You have Guinea, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau in Africa, then Papua New Guinea on the other side of the world. I'm sure there's some historical or linguistic trace that explains the mass Guinea name movement, but I've not yet bothered to look into it.....

Which in turn leads me to wonder if that relates to Guyana which opens a whole new kettle of fish. Some countries were really intent on being Guyana. There was British Guyana, French Guyana, Dutch Guyana.

Somewhere along the line, someone must have elbowed the others out of the way because now there is just plain Guyana.

I guess it's something like the Rough Riders of the Canadian Football League. The name is just so damn good, multiple people have to have it.
