OT - What's the best site to do research on?
Is there a way to get access to information at Elias Sports Bureau and do your own research?
Just curious after watching Twins/Sox last night and the cool stat they came up. 1st time in 100 years a starting pitcher gave up 7+ runs in the 1st inning and won the game. Pretty cool. I thought w/ the web there must be a way an average Joe can get access to do that kind of research and other stuff that might help us handicap games. |

Don't think you can access Elias' database without paying, or unless you have media credentials from a media source that is paying.

There's almost no limit to the research you can do with the play-by-play event files available at www.retrosheet.org, but you have to do a lot of the data crunching yourself. There are also some handy command-line tools available to help parse the data files.
And it's completely FREE! |

That is an excellent site, MrX. I've been sending them and Sean over at Baseball-Reference a few dollars each year to help support 'em.
