Default OT - What's the best site to do research on?

Is there a way to get access to information at Elias Sports Bureau and do your own research?

Just curious after watching Twins/Sox last night and the cool stat they came up.

1st time in 100 years a starting pitcher gave up 7+ runs in the 1st inning and won the game. Pretty cool.

I thought w/ the web there must be a way an average Joe can get access to do that kind of research and other stuff that might help us handicap games.

Don't think you can access Elias' database without paying, or unless you have media credentials from a media source that is paying.

i guess you can always hack into it, but thats not a viable option for people.

There's almost no limit to the research you can do with the play-by-play event files available at www.retrosheet.org, but you have to do a lot of the data crunching yourself. There are also some handy command-line tools available to help parse the data files.

    And it's completely FREE!

That is an excellent site, MrX. I've been sending them and Sean over at Baseball-Reference a few dollars each year to help support 'em.

If this is the best ESB can do it's pretty lame. There's not even a phone number to call them.

In all fairness, I did ask about this in the title but then focused on what I thought would be the "great" solution in the body of the thread if someone knew of a way to get access to Elias' info. And all the posts then took off on Elias.

    Sorry for the confusion.

    So thanks Pags!

    winston,

threads definitely take turns, but ultimately replying to the original topic is still something I consider OK...I read enough of the thread to notice you didn't contribute anything to it, whereas I did...
