I'm in Canada and I'd like to make a small deposit to a book, not sure which one yet. Can I use a prepaid Visa card? And if so, where can I go buy one of these prepaid cards in Canada?

First off, Welcome to the SBR Forum sir

Seeing that you reside in Canada, Why limit yourself to using a prepaid visa card when you can use Moneybookers for your processing services. During the setup time it takes in order to get setup with them, you can use either Moneygram or Western Union to deposit funds into your sportsbook.

In regards to picking a book goes. What are you looking for when choosing a book?

Hm, are there any fees associated with Moneybookers? And how do i fund it, through my bank, or with a credit card?

Not really sure what I'm looking for in a book, just going to be doing a bit of casual betting, nothing serious.

Here is the Moneybookers website. This should better explain the fees they have sir. As far as the type of book goes. I wasn't sure if you were looking for big bonuses or low vig.

Fees from Moneybookers itself are, to my way of thinking, negligible. Some books will have a fee to take a payout that way but those fees tend to be on the low end compared to other methods.

It is up to you what currency you want to operate in and that will dictate what kind of conversions you may get into. But again, that is true of all methods.

You can fund a Moneybookers account straight from your bank or by credit card. I have done both.

There is some set-up and ID verification involved. Once again, that is true of most methods.

When I take a withdrawal from Moneybookers, it takes about 3 business days to get to my bank account. So that may be something to consider.

I'm not sure Moneybookers is the #1 choice of "casual, nothing serious" players.

i funded my betjam account with a netspend all-access mastercard. they take all-access visa too. i drove to the closest convenient store (betjam will tell you the closest store if you ask, mine was a Speedway), bought, and loaded the card, came home and registered it at netspend.com

then logged onto betjam and deposited. there was only a $1 processing fee. didn't have to show id or nothing. all this took about half hour and was easy and painless.

the card cost $10 and is reloadable

You know, I'm not sure what to tell you. I see people doing stuff and I don't understand why. They pay fees I don't pay - and I'm not sure what is going into their decision.

I personally would recommend Moneybookers. I move a lot of money around but I don't see why it wouldn't be the best choice for a more casual player. But I get the feeling a lot of casual players don't want to do the set-up and up-front ID verification, or wait 3 days for a withdrawal to their bank account. They would rather just call in with a credit card and be done with it (although they're still going to have to verify themselves).

Or they just want to take the cash in their hand and send it via Western Union or Moneygram.

When the time comes for a withdrawal, they would rather just pay the fee and use Moneygram or Western Union and have the funds in their hands right away. (Then again, a lot of casual players always lose their money so they never end up even thinking about the withdrawal end of things).

Deposits and payouts can also be done by bank drafts and cheques. Those have a different set of steps and fees and time frames.

They all have pros and cons. I have settled on Moneybookers as my main method.

After googling it, i'm kinda confused. Would my CIBC Visa card work when trying to make a deposit directly to a sportsbook?

I don't see anything weird in what you are saying.

You probably had to wait a few days when you first set up at Moneybookers for a code to come by snail mail for their address verification. Once that is done, you are pretty much ready to go.

With Moneybookers, a lot depends on the limits you need. For a casual starting-out player, their opening limits may be sufficient. For me, they were totally inadequate and it was an ongoing struggle to get them to a useful level. That involved a lot more verifications and tooth-pulling.

But either way, once you are set-up, it is a great way to move money.

Sadly, we can't use Neteller in the great white north, Shark.

Most(but not all) books would take this as a deposit method, and for small players I feel it's possibly the best way if you're only making one or two deposits. If you're doing more than that, I'd recommend going through MB.

The only problem with this method is that you'll need to scan the card and send in ID etc...

Moneybookers is very good and pretty nice software, it is worth the hassle to have a moneybookers account. Americans would kill to have one. I use to have one way back when they first started and was great.

thanks for answering Mudcat...im new around here (as you can tell)....

i guess i should have been clearer...i did not have to recieve a verification letter by mail either...HOWEVER, i see that in my account info, there is a button i can push to have a 'verification letter' sent to me by snailmail....havent pushed it yet, and have been able to move money no problem from bank to moneybookers to books. i am guessing that i will have to recieve the verification letter before (hopefully) withdrawaing to my bank? im thinkinf of pushing the 'send verification button' now but i am afraid some sort of explosion will occur

my initial transaction limit was 1200 dollars but once money got into my account from my bank, it jumped up to 7000! i was surprised, as i heard of the long drwan out process to have limits increased.

i heard there is a max monthly deposit into MB though?

anyhoo, im new to all this, so far so smooth, first plays this weekend.

Mudder, what was your MB limit when you first started?

Mine is at $9800 for some reason, that seems quite high for me.

I don't even remember that starting limit 5teamer. It was awhile back.

It was probably like you guys are saying. Somewhere in the 7-10K range per 90 days. (I hope everyone understands those limits mean total activity for 90 days).

After a lot of scratching and clawing, my account is now unlimited.

Pretty easy to get limits increased. It seems to be about 8k for verifying each of your bank account, credit card, and address, so a new user could have it to 24k within a couple days of opening.

By gawd, seize the day! Go ahead and push it man!

No, all that happens is they mail you a letter with a 6-digit code. You enter that code on-line, your limits go up again. Done deal.

To be honest, I'm not sure you need to do it to get a withdrawal to your bank. You could ask them. Or you could just do it just in case. It is truly a harmless, almost effortless process.
