Lowest Tv Ratings World Series ever??
Bud Selig must be crying now.. If LAD and BOS would have made it, it might have been the highest tv rating world series of all time.. 2 very big market teams.. Manny and Joe Torre.. vs Red Sox and Jason Bay.. manny back at fenway with all the boos trying to beat his old teammates and go head to head vs Jason Bay... Selig was drooling..
Instead...
A boring unpopular Phillies.. vs The tampa bay devil rays..
IF TB beat BOS.. i am predicting this might be the lowest tv rated world series ever...........
Nobody will watch except for sports gamblers who have action on it. I am not sure if FOX or TBS will carry it, but whoever is.. is crying right now..
Will this be lowest tv rated WS ever?? I say YES..

It will up there, but not the lowest. Philadelphia has the fourth largest tv market in the country.

It would continue a disturbing trend, as the two lowest rated World Series of all time came the last two years.
The lowest rated ever was Tigers/Cardinals in 2006, and the second lowest was Rockies/Red Sox last year.

Only baseball teams that would draw a ratings win would be Cubs vs Red Sox or Yanks

can you imagine had MILW beaten PHI and then advanced to WS.. a milw/tb ws? lol... there might have been under 1 million in america watching this.. i dont even think sports gamblers would watch this..
a milw/tb ws would be worse for americans than a columbus/ottawa stanley cup on ESPN..

Tampa and Boston are both big draws IMO, I mean its Tampa ****ing Bay......in the World Series. The Dodgers would have been a bigger draw than Philly but still it shouldnt be too bad ratings wise

I'll pipe in before Willie Bee.
Tampa are the biggest story of the past few years - going from worst team in baseball to World Series contenders within a single season. Despite being a Red Sox fan, they're probably the best team out there and I'll be cheering them on.
Couple that against the Phillies containing some of the best players in baseball; Hamels, Lidge, Howard, Rollins, Utley.
I'd much rather see them playing than a washed-out Yankees and a don't-deserve-to-be-there Cubs. I can't wait.

I'll watch to root for the Rays and against the Phillies even if I don't have action on it.
C'mon TB, finish off Boston.
By the way, I do not believe at all that it would be the lowest rated WS of all time.
In fact, I'd bet money that it won't be, if it does happen.

its very true... selig and mlb and tv/advertisers will be very dissapointed to have rays vs phils from a business standpoint.
but I kinda like to have the wheat separated from the chaff and let the TRUE fans of sports and baseball come out... if you can't love this rays team... I don't know..
and next to the cubs and the sox of a few years back.....there is NO team that has a fanbase that has been denied championships for so long... that SHOULD be a big story.. but philly baseball fans just aren't as lovable and fanatical about their team

I have to disagree here. Philadelphia fans may be obnoxous, but of the 8 teams that have played this postseason Phillies fans are by far the loudest. Tampa is a close second, but if the Phillies played at the Trop those fans would have blown a hole threw the roof with their noise.

word
I mean yeah the phils fans are loud NOW.... but i'm talking about january... hot stove league time... where are the phils fans? they are watching the eagles....
after being in chicago for half a decade now... I realize that cubs fans are cubs fans 12 months a year...they never stop talking about them, they may use the bears or bulls as a distraction...but even during the bulls run, they were first and foremost defined as CUBS fans.
they weren't insurance agents, firemen, taxi-cab drivers, teacher, Dads, moms husbands, whatever...... they would define themselves as first and foremost as CUBS FANS... i've never seen that anywhere else to that level of dedication....
Rays fans may be loud BUT
is there a such thing as a "Life long Rays fan"?????
of I love the Rays because my dad loved the rays and his dad loved the rays...ect.
no..
that is what is intriguing to me... the depth of attachedness to a team so much, that it almost defines that person's life...... If they Rays lose, their fans will be "happy" they made it this far. life goes on next day and everything... in chicago... we STILL have a dark cloud over us.
and that's from the 2003 year with bartman... c'mon

lol I hear ya... I think that the sox were happy to make the 'loffs and when the cubs failed to win a game.... ONE win was enough to seal a very HAPPY offseason for them.
I think for me, ( I have a ton of fanatical cubs fans) and one very very loyal sox fan..) I'll be happy when baseball is over...cuz i'm just sooooo sick of hearing people analyze what went wrong...
and i'm not looking forward to hearing the 2009 version of hope springs eternal version of the cubs.
and if I hear about fukedome one more time i'll punch someone.
but I think the big thing is... i live in one of the poorest and most unemployed area of the city.... and for people here, they really really really LIVE on vicarious things such as sports.... and the tone of the past month of "bad economy" "bad economcy" "layoffs" "recssion" "bad economy" "foreclosure" over and over.... NEEDED to be drowned out by somthing distracting and positive.... the cubs and sox were that ticket
NOW orton, the D line of the bears, the young hawks, and maybe Luol is given that burden..
it pains me to listen to Waddell and silvey, and the afternoon saloon anymore.... and that SUX

However, you left out one bit taco. You guys are comparing some percentages of some absolute bullsh¡t rating system as the final word. No different than someone looking at a list of stolen base leaders for a season and concluding the guy with the most base thefts has to be the fastest person in the majors.
These ratings are being compared to World Series back in the 60s and 70s when there were all of three major networks and a PBS station for most people to choose for their viewing pleasure. Even if it was Milwaukee and Tampa Bay in this Series, how do you think the ratings would look if all anyone had to choose from was a baseball game, Designing Women and WKRP, plus the annual fund drive on PBS?
The number of people watching World Series has increased; the percentage of TV sets tuned to the games has decreased.

Back in 06 I got threw out of a bar when I became irrate because they wouldnt put on one of the big screens the clemson/VTech game. They had like 6 TV's in the joint but because it was game 4 of the world series and naturally I live in Stlouis and the Cards were in the series.

mlb has been on the decline for awhile. nba was and rebounded nicely as of late. people laugh when the point is raised that the nba might be better. but they have more tv deals on national networks and have a larger organization then mlb. NFL is the king. NBA and MLB you can flip them back and forth. there is no 4th major sport.

Except for one thing, Nicky. Even with Boston and the Dodgers, ther's no way it was going to be the highest World Series ratings ever as you theorized. The World Series hasn't seen a ratings share in the 20s for 16 years now. Unless Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig come back from the dead to play for the Yankees in a World Series game, the ratings mark of 32.8 in 1980 will stand forever. Interestingly, that Series didn't involve the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers or Cubs.

willie bee buddy, what if CUBS met YANKEES in the WS? I'll bet you it would have been highest ever..
Everyone and their grandmother loves the CUBS, and alot hate yankees.. and people would be cheering for CUBS to end the 100 yr jinx and see the yanks go down..

I'd still take the under 32.8 ratings share, Nicky. In fact, I'd take Under 20.0 for any combination you could come up with. Like I said, unless the Babe and the Iron Horse rise from the dead to play for the Pinstripes.
