I'm starting with a downward thumb:

:thumbs_do to guys who try to scam sportsbooks, get busted and then go on a major flaming campaign against the sportsbook on the posting forums. I say, if you're a scammer and get caught, accept it and move on with your life. Sportsbooks don't have a duty to be scammed by you. In fact they're doing the indisputable right thing when they stop you. Trying to discredit them for it is totally inappropriate.

It would be like trying to snatch a woman's purse - but she manages to not let you take it - so you run a major slander campaign against her, spreading lies about her to everyone she knows. Totally inappropriate and scummy.

:thumbs_up to Lou Lamiorello.

First of all, as General Manager and President of the New Jersey Devils, he led the team to 3 Stanley Cups from 1995-2003. This was in the pre-salary cap era when he was frequently outspent by other teams by a significant margin. Big time :thumbs_up for that. Period.

But now this year, he takes over behind the bench when coach Larry Robinson resigns abruptly after 32 games with the team in 10th place in the Eastern Conference.

What does coach Lamiorello do? Compiles a 32-14-4 coaching record and leads the Devils to the Atlantic Division title. Oh and they sweep their opening series against the Rangers to extend their late season winning streak to 15 games.

Okay this would be a better story if they hadn't lost their first 2 games of their current series against the Canes but still:

(BTW, before taking over for Robinson, Lamiorello's NHL coaching experience consisted of exactly 1 game when he filled in for suspended coach Jim Schoenfeld in 1988.)

To my two 'kid' umpires in the Little League. One is 16 and the other 18, and both have done a fantastic job in my opinion, especially the younger one who had never umpired before this season.


To the hot & hazy weather we're having in this part of the world right now. Ok, it's supposed to be hot, mid-90s or so. But every May we get this haze that is really smoke from Mexico where they're burning fields. Really sucks.

I sort of agree, Ill. But I'm also with Dan on this since I didn't even think they would give him that long.
