Seems a little high to me. The Nitendo Wii at $250 sounds more interesting to me with the new control setup, but I am sure the games on playstation 3 will be better.

Still no PS3 will top the graphics of what a PC can do.....for PS3 must be putting out a good piece of hardware since its so expensive (sony doesnt make money off selling their system) it should be solid.

I guess part of it is that is will play Blu ray HD DVDs too. If that becomes the new standard I guess that will be something. By the time I bought a PS2, I had owned a DVD player for several years so that didn't mean anything to me.

I would pay in a heart beat. Does anybody happen to know the release date? I keep hearing next spring.![]()

I prefer PC games now but I like the PS2 controls ... hate using a mouse .. but Im happy with my PS2 really. unless they bring Hitman Contract II exclusively for PS3 then there wont be any reason to shift over.

whats even sicker than paying that much for the unit. the fact that the games are so god damn expensive for it.

Just spend a few $s in getting it chipped.![]()

taco, i thought there wasn't a chip out for this one yet.

Nah - they usually follow pretty quickly, though.

i'm not so sure it will be that fast on this unit though. besides, i can just imagine how fun it will be to install it if and when they do![]()

Sony will actually lose money on the system, they make all their money on the games.
SBR Founder Join Date: 11/16/2005
i can't see them losing money on the units itself IMG. maybe a smaller profit margin than expected, and they would make it up on the back in with the game sales.

Brick, that is the competing format. It came out last month. Sony is pushing the blu ray DVD which will compete and I am not sure is even available yet.

It depends on what you class as "losing money". Is the price that Sony receive able to cover the cost of the individual components? Probably yes. Does the price that Sony receive cover the cost of not only the individual components but the actual costs of the business? Probably not. The fact is that Sony get a % royalty for each game sold which can absorb any costs incurred in getting the systems in as many homes as possible. Just like sportsbook bonuses - the books don't mind giving money away initially in order to secure a long term profit. Selling a console at a loss or a near loss is commonplace in the console industry and they expect to make their profits through licencing.Originally Posted by bigboydan
Microsoft suffered pretty hefty losses when they launched the Xbox although a good propotion of that is down to the costs involved of entering a new market. So, with the Xbox at least, Microsoft were losing money on the systems.

Have you guys seen the system yet? I just seen a picture on the news last night. I'm go pre-order mine later tonight. Hopefully they don't move/change the November 7th release date.

the thing i hate about pre-ordering, is if it's a hot product odds are you won't get it on the due date they give you.Originally Posted by Illusion

I wonder what they are going to do with Madden 2007?
Will it have PS3 graphics?

I've got an X-Box but rarely use it (I do play DVD's on it)...I can't justify spending $500 on a new system...
