Default Who here will pay $499 or even $599 for the Playstation 3.

Seems a little high to me. The Nitendo Wii at $250 sounds more interesting to me with the new control setup, but I am sure the games on playstation 3 will be better.

I was looking at getting a new system, but haven't checked out any of those things out in ages. The last one I got was a Playstation 2 that I used some girl for and she got it for me for X-mas after knowing her about 3 weeks somewhere around 98 or something like that.

All of the new stytems look great. But, i really don't even know what games are out or anything about them. I searched Ebay when the 360 came out and those prices were unbeleiveable. I just don't think I'd play it that much to justify the price. Iget bored easily with those things afterawhile.

Usually because when I play a sport game, there is always 1 move or 1 play you an continually do over and over again to win. Hopefully, with the new systems, that problem is fixed. Example, when I got that Playstation 2, on NCAA football, I won it all quite easily with Ball State on throwing screen passes left and right on every play. It was too easy and got boring after awhile.

I still say nothing compares with the old Tecmo Bowl or Super Bowl by Nintendo. It was so simple, but so fun. Maybe thats because I was only 11 years old at the time. Easy to forget that the games are actually intended for that age, I think.

I would pay them and I will pay them.. just because I know it worth the price. I have good expierence with the PS2, so PS3 should be lots better! also you can always get a way to be able to play burned games, so I don't have to spend money in games! and maybe NBA playoffs action will buy it for me!

Still no PS3 will top the graphics of what a PC can do.....for PS3 must be putting out a good piece of hardware since its so expensive (sony doesnt make money off selling their system) it should be solid.

I guess part of it is that is will play Blu ray HD DVDs too. If that becomes the new standard I guess that will be something. By the time I bought a PS2, I had owned a DVD player for several years so that didn't mean anything to me.

I've heard the HD dvd players alone sell for close to 800..so if this is true then I would deffinitly think that the ps3 would be a huge value purchase...

I prefer PC games now but I like the PS2 controls ... hate using a mouse .. but Im happy with my PS2 really. unless they bring Hitman Contract II exclusively for PS3 then there wont be any reason to shift over.

My guess is that at least one nephew or grand-nephew will be wanting this for an upcoming birthday or Christmas, so I guess I better start saving my coin now

whats even sicker than paying that much for the unit. the fact that the games are so god damn expensive for it.

Sony will actually lose money on the system, they make all their money on the games.

i can't see them losing money on the units itself IMG. maybe a smaller profit margin than expected, and they would make it up on the back in with the game sales.

Brick, that is the competing format. It came out last month. Sony is pushing the blu ray DVD which will compete and I am not sure is even available yet.

It depends on what you class as "losing money". Is the price that Sony receive able to cover the cost of the individual components? Probably yes. Does the price that Sony receive cover the cost of not only the individual components but the actual costs of the business? Probably not. The fact is that Sony get a % royalty for each game sold which can absorb any costs incurred in getting the systems in as many homes as possible. Just like sportsbook bonuses - the books don't mind giving money away initially in order to secure a long term profit. Selling a console at a loss or a near loss is commonplace in the console industry and they expect to make their profits through licencing.

Microsoft suffered pretty hefty losses when they launched the Xbox although a good propotion of that is down to the costs involved of entering a new market. So, with the Xbox at least, Microsoft were losing money on the systems.

the thing i hate about pre-ordering, is if it's a hot product odds are you won't get it on the due date they give you.
