Default Soccer

I don't like soccer. It's like MacDonalds food to me. About once a year, I try it out - and always end up just reminding myself that, no, it's not for me.

If you're a soccer fan please don't hate me. We just have different taste. If you must try to make a case that I am showing myself to be ignorant/immoral/intolerant, then so be it. (Can you tell I've been involved in discussions on this subject before?)

There is no need to tell me that it is the most popular sport in the world. I know that.

I actually played soccer for a good 8-10 years as a kid. I was fairly successful at it and won a lot of trophies which may still be in my parents' crawl space. However around the age of 15 I discovered marijuana and soccer was somehow inharmonious with that. I stopped playing soccer.

I have long since stopped smoking marijuana but a resumption of my soccer playing did not follow. Both chapters, soccer and marijuana, would seem to be over for me.

I don't mind betting on soccer. Just as long as I don't have to watch it.

So anyway, I am well aware that the World Cup is on the horizon and that it's big. I hope everyone here makes a ton'o'dough on it. I hope it provides a lot of viewing entertainment for any and all interested parties.

Basically I just like to take the temperature of the room on different subjects from time to time and at the moment I am wondering how the forum feels about soccer.

I don't know enough about it, all the strategies and rules, to really have an educated opinion. I love to watch the World Cup action, and went to the Brazil-Netherlands match up in Dallas back in 1994 that was a very cool contest. Like a lot of sports, I really enjoy seeing it live and in person, or with a bunch of my Brit buds at a pub watching big premier league matches.

I do not like soccer too. I do not know exactly the situation in american sports, but i read that many people believe that some are fixed. European soccer matches are fixed for sure. Not only minor leagues.
I remember that when I was a teenager, I beted a big accumulated bet (in 1996 or so). I should won nice money. Last game: final of Champions League - Olympic Marseille x AC Milano. Olympic won 1-0 fixed match. I lost.
Look at many matches in the last games of season. Many have VERY low odds for draw (Italy, Greece...), some are not listed by bookies. It is a theatre!

90% of soccer games are boring like hell. The other 10% are watchable and about
2-3% is the best sports show on earth you can get. When soccer is played the right way, the game is an important one and the players are top class, there is no other game with so much concentrated dynamics and drama on earth.

The World Cup isn't until 2010. The European championship is next summer.

Agree 100%. It's more exciting to play poker with flashscore in the background keeping me updated.

Thats a fair comment , Football can be boring , but it can also be the best most exciting sport where small teams can beat big teams in the FAcup

I have always enjoyed boring fixed matches. Especially when I'm on the right side.

I agree that soccer games are often boring - when you watch them in TV. But at the stadium I was never bored. Unfortunately the things are changing in Europe and itīs mostly about money - real football atmosphere is disappearing step by step. So soccer could become very boring at the stadium too At the worst it will look like at North America stadiums.
