Default Ricky Williams just added to the Toronto Argonauts negotiation list

I'm not saying it necessarily means a lot. I'm just saying.

The bad news for Ricky Williams is that he had to pay all of his signing bonuses back to the Dolphins. The good news is that he qualified for farm subsidies for growing crops.

I don't know how many bonuses he'll be paying back with a CFL salary. I'd guess he could stand to earn 2 or 3 hundred grand. That's just a guess - I'm really not sure about the money that would be out here for him. He may be dragged down by the memory of Lawrence Phillips, whom a few CFL teams got burned trying to salvage.

I guess it would allow him to stay sharp and fit anyway. Would Ricky take a smart, long-term view like that? He doesn't seem like the type.

    Here's the story:

The Toronto Argonauts have added NFL running back Ricky Williams to their negotiation list.

Williams was suspended for the 2006 NFL season for violating the league's substance abuse policy for the fourth time.

''We have him on our neg list and like all the other guys on the neg list we have to check him out and see if there is any interest and if it's a workable deal,'' said Argonauts vice president of football operations Adam Rita. ''Until then we are just kind of kicking the tires.''

The 1998 Heisman Trophy winner at Texas and 2002 NFL rushing champion, Williams retired and sat out the 2004 season, then returned last year to play for new Miami coach Nick Saban.

Williams missed the first four games of the 2005 season because he was serving a suspension for his third violation of the drug program. He finished the season with 743 yards and averaged 4.4 yards per carry.

The CFL just got a whole lot more interesting for me! The Phins aren't happy about it, but still retain his rights for 2007. I know the Ricky haters will disagree with me, but Ricky will be back in an NFL uniform in 2007.

Yeah, Argos ownership is applying heavy spin right now. They're trying to turn him into a saint. They're playing up his character and how much he's going to do for the community, and barely even talking about the football end of it.

well i agree with you on the heart thing......think this is a great investment for the argos even if he left before the season started they have gotten their monies worth in free advertising.

I have to admit, I'm really starting to like the guy. I don't know if I'm getting brainwashed by the local hype, but he seems like a guy that would be interesting to hang out with.

The Argos are very active in the community in anti-gang stuff and educating kids and it sounds like Ricky is anxious to dive right in. for that.

From a football standpoint, I guarantee I'll be checking out more Argos action than in recent years.
