ummm...last time i checked this isn't a socialist gvmt and this is right wing republicans advancing this legislation.

in fact, the socialist position would be the opposite of this or there would be no position or argument from a socialist b/c a socialist could care less about this issue

This is your right wing legislation Brent

I disagree. A socialist government would regulate just about everything, especially an issue that has both social and economic ramifications such as gambling.

trust me....socialists could care less about this issue. Only rightwing republicans seem to be obsessed and ready to mobilize over such an issue.

Completely disagree buddy. Socialism is the governments involvement in everything. The government would involve itself in the everything from health care to technology to religion to entertainment. It would be guarenteed that they would want to control what goes over the internet and look to cash in. Look how well socialism is working in France right now. When people expect everything for free, they do not push themselves to do better. I agree it is the far right that is trying to ban this, however i would still take our government over a socialistic one any day of the week and twice on sundays!!

woah...you guys are extending this question where it does not need to be. There are a variety of different forms of socialism and quite a bit of debate among socialits themselves about how best to function and rule. That's for another thread not this one....

The original claim was that Republicans are acting like socialists in trying to ban online gambling. Well this is an empirical question....that is we can actually test it and no need to bicker about who is right.

Your claim: socialist goverments would ban online gambling

My claim: socialist goverments would not ban online gambling

Okay...so now we can identify some of the major countries that are ruled primarily by socialist regimes (i.e. those in power, not just organizations or opposition parties). So the basic expectation would be that socialist gvmts would not allow online gambling.

Here is a brief list:

Brazil
Bolivia
Venezuela
Uruguay
Chile
and we can say a large part of Europe

Now...i guess it is a simple question which i have no answer and maybe Bill Dozer knows but where exactly is online gambling baned in what countries and that would give us an answer. If Bill or SBR john knows we have an answer if not we can conclude that this is nothing more than right wing zealots at work again.

Guys, we've got a hybrid government incorporating various forms and ideas. We are not 100% capitalist nor 0% socialist, despite what the right wing wants you to think.

Truth is, if we stuck to ANY ideology to the letter and could avoid basic corruption, it wouldn't really matter, there would be plenty to go around. The reality is that there's a stream of power going through public office which allows abuse of power. It's like pigs at slop bucket. The greediest pig will get the most. It has nothing to do with some abstract ideology if the system is corrupt.

Arguing Democrat vs Republican or Abortion vs Women's rights is just missing the point, and they want it that way. We think we are voting. Truth is, we are just endorsing the corruption every time we participate in the charade.

Vote Slacker for prez, under the anti-corruption party.

Socialists would be very eager to allow someone to make private money gambling. No doubt about it.

You better watch out,all of you gamblers who make a living playing poker, sports gambling, playing the ponies etc.might be rounded up by the FDR we know what's best for you thought police and be put in a workers camp and re educated and given a real job like building a rock wall that's good for nothing in the middle of nowhere. You must all become good and happy workers for the state and for the common good.Leave your independence behind. You will be issued a good bed and 3 square meals a day and lights out at 9P.M and wakeup call for calisthenics is at 5.AM.A healthy worker is a productive worker.Hillary will take care of you from womb to tomb, cradle to grave. She will decide what operations and medicine you need to become a more complete worker.
