Was with JJ back around 2003-4 or thereabouts and we hit up Sarasota Kennel Club.
Were having a good time and picking up a few bucks, but nothing to write home about. I think I was up a couple hundred and JJ just a few bucks.
Anyways, we come to the 8th race and this race is a complete toss-up, at least by looking at the toteboard 3 minutes before post........like every dog was less than 10-1 odds(8 dogs in the race). Out of the blue, JJ turns to me and says to me in that JJ voice you have all come to know "Fish, watch this, I'm betting the #1 dog to win for $3,000, watch the toteboard!" I'm like "huh"........and then "
". This dog was the third favorite at the time at 7-2. I walk with JJ to the counter(with my beer in hand) and watch JJ put his bet in..........all hell breaks loose and 4 suits come over to approve the bet..........then we are literally running back to our seats in the clubhouse(we had front row compliments of his dad) and as were doing so, two security guards and and this matridee jump on our case becuase I was not to take beer out of the clubhouse and they actually threaten to throw us out on the spot. JJ quickly shows him his betting ticket and all is well. Meanwhile, I'm really pissed at these jackasses, all the while peeking at the tote.
The next change, the #1 dog goes from 7-2 to 1-5.......LOL!!!.....JJ is having a ball and surprisingly not even sweating this......think about it, he has like 3000 to win 600 on this freaking dog he knows nothing about.
Well, to make a long story short, unbelievably this dog went wire to wire for the win......not even a sweat really.
I'm like having a blast watching this unfold..........JJ is then acting like he owns the joint.
Ok, now we make our way back down to collect.......and in the excitement, I forget to leave my beer as was told and take it out of the clubhouse again. JJ cashes and on the way back this queer matridee is practically assaulting me and grabbing me throwing me out of the joint!!!
Just then, here comes JJGOLDS father out of nowhere to save the day. You see, Golds dad has probably put more cash through the Sarasota Club than anyone in its long history.........the matridee was scared shitless after Mr. Gold layed the law down to him.
WHAT A DAY AT THE TRACK..........PROBABLY MY MOST MEMORABLE OF ANY IN ALL THE TIMES I'VE VISITED A DOG, THOUROUGBRED, OR HARNESS TRACK........I SURE DON'T KNOW WHAT WOULD TOP IT.
Thought you all would enjoy that, I'm sure JJ can add more to what happened, as I was actually half smashed at the time.
