Default Most Users Ever Online....

Most users ever online was 1,937, 09-08-2006 at 04:33 PM.

I was expecting this number to change yesterday. What was going on 09-08-2006 besides the U.S. Open?

NFL started on 9/7. My guess is people were wondering if Mansion was paying that $1000 free play.

Right...free $1,100 bet on Pittsburgh over Miami. One of the guys in my office took that bet. I passed because I thought Miami was going to win.

This is one of the few forums that doesnt fudge the numbers. I think the 1900 was probably BoS related.

At the risk of sounding like I'm making some cheesy conspiracy accusation, I'm afraid I have to challenge that statement. I was a mod at the time previous records were set and I remember some discussions.

One time I remember commenting in the mod forum that I was puzzled at how a record was broken when activity seemed so unremarkable. I was told that the techies could leave the length of "collection time" open for longer and make the number higher.

I'm sure I am using terminology improperly but the upshot was that those numbers we see are based on the number of hits in an arbitrary length of time, say, 2 hours. But they could arbitrarily set the collection time to 8 hours or whatever. That naturally made the numbers higher.

Maybe I misunderstood slightly - and I honestly don't give a rat's ass about stuff like this - but that's what I recall. It came across as a bit "fudgy."

Beyond any shadow of a doubt: it was not nearly so busy here the day the current record was set as it was after the recent Pinnacle announcement.

Mudcat, with all due respect, you're starting to fit the rather common profile of a former employee with an ax to grind. Sharing what is discussed in a mod forum with the world is questionable by any standard. Don't lower yourself, bro. Better to walk away.

My question is, is the increased traffic slowing down the site? In the last 24 hours, SBR (and Prescription, Major Wager, and Shrink’s EOG site) have been inaccessible off and on for me, and even sometimes when they are up they have been unusually slow. Is it because so many more people than usual are trying to access them at once, due to the Pinnacle news?

TLD, we did have to restart our server at one point this morning, sorry for that inconvenience. The users, actual registered members on-line at any given time, doesn't slow us down. Being 'spidered' is something that can, but the guys in CR do everything they can to keep us running 24/7 with as fast a speed as possible.

As far as the 'most ever users on-line' topic that started this thread, I'm not really sure why that particular time/date is the record, so to speak. It wasn't a peak time for us in terms of post activity, certainly have had more action going with fewer people at the site. Might have just been high-tea for the bots and spiders. I primarily just go by the registered members on-line figure anyway.

At the time we first opened we set our counters to the same time as TheRx. I asked our competeitors if we could all have a standard. And since theRx was around the longest we should adopt theirs. They all said no. So we adopted the eog's standard simply because they were our closest competitor. They have since played with different settings but our settings have not been changed in well over a year.
