After scoring a dozen goals in the first two games, the Los Angeles Kings hope to take a 3-0 series chokehold with a win Friday in Edmonton at Rogers Place (10 p.m. ET, TNT, Sportsnet) as we offer our Kings vs. Oilers prediction, NHL picks, and player props.

Our best sports betting sites have bumped the total to 6, but that’s not enough of an adjustment. We’re also backing two firsts in the playoffs: Edmonton to win and Zach Hyman to score.

📰 Kings vs. Oilers Game 3 preview

Without the injured Mattias Ekholm anchoring the blueline, the Oilers are clearly having trouble slowing down the Kings. LA hasn’t fired a ton of rubber at Stuart Skinner in this series, but Edmonton's defensive breakdowns have given Kings' sharpshooters plenty of time to pick him apart.

After seeing Skinner give up six goals in Game 1 and another five in Game 2, Edmonton head coach Kris Knoblauch pulled him in favor of Calvin Pickard, only to see him get beaten on the first shot he faced.

Although it’s uncertain which goalie Knoblauch will turn to, it won’t matter unless Edmonton finds a way to tighten things up.

Why Over 6 goals is the best pick

I’m not optimistic that the Oilers can do that, especially with so many Kings oozing confidence. Adrian Kempe and Anze Kopitar combined for three goals and five assists in Game 2 alone, while Andrei Kuzmenko and Quinton Byfield scored in both games. Going back to the regular season, LA has scored 35 goals in its last seven games, with 13 on the power play.

If Edmonton is going to beat the Kings and get back into this series, it will likely have to do it with an offensive explosion. Fortunately, the Oilers are accustomed to doing that at Rogers Place, where they’re 25-13-3 on the season and have potted at least three goals in nine of the last 10 games.

The potential for either team — and quite possibly both — putting up a big number makes the Over my favorite bet in this game, even if oddsmakers have already adjusted the total to 6 after setting it at 5.5 in the first two games. Oilers moneyline up to -140 is a secondary play for me in a do-or-die spot for Edmonton.

🚨 Zach Hyman Over 0.5 Goals ⭐⭐⭐

It’s an old adage in sports that role players are at their best in home games, and that’s been the case for Hyman this year. The former 50-goal man averaged nearly half a goal per game this season at Rogers Centre while managing just eight on the road.

Hyman skated on Edmonton’s fourth line in Game 2 but could see added time with Connor McDavid tonight if Knoblauch breaks up McDavid and Leon Draisaitl again. bet365’s +320 price, the best of our best NHL betting sites, makes it worth taking a shot at Hyman finding the net for the first time in these playoffs now that the series has shifted to Edmonton.

🚨 Leon Draisaitl Over 0.5 Goals ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Hampered by hand and rib injuries last spring, Draisaitl was held without a goal in Edmonton’s Stanley Cup Final loss to the Florida Panthers. And Oilers fans were nervous that injuries might hold him back again this spring after he missed Edmonton’s last seven regular-season games due to an undisclosed ailment.

Draisaitl’s returned to his high-scoring ways in these playoffs, scoring in the first two games in LA. This year’s league goal leader was also one of the most outspoken Oilers after Edmonton’s loss in Game 2, telling reporters that it’s time for his team to start playing.

Once again, bet365 is offering the best odds on this prop at +125. FanDuel and BetMGM aren’t far behind, however, at +120.

💰 Best odds: +120 via bet365

🚨 Quinton Byfield Over 1.5 Shots ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Dating back to the regular season, Byfield scored goals in six of his last seven games, recording 10 points during that span. He’s also posted multiple shots on net in four straight, and his 15 shots in four regular-season games versus the Oilers were his most against any opponent this year.

I expected to see Byfield’s shots prop set at 2.5 in this game, so needing only two shots to cash this prop makes it worth the -148 juice at DraftKings.

💰 Best odds: -148 via DraftKings
