NFL's Terry Bradshaw admits to steroid use
Quote:
Post Gazette
Former Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw told an interviewer last week that he occasionally used steroids in his playing days, but only when prescribed by a doctor to improve the healing process.
"The steroids I'd always taken was to speed up the healing process and that was it. It wasn't to get bigger, stronger, faster," Bradshaw told Dan Patrick on Patrick's radio show.
He not did specify what kind of steroids he took.
During Bradshaw's playing days, steroids were not banned by the NFL and were not illegal. They were approved for use by the FDA and could be readily obtained with a doctor's prescription.
Bradshaw said players in his time in the NFL were not as medically or technologically informed as players are today.

Richard Seymour had the same excuse, he used simply to speed the recovery process for his aches and pains, and I even think that was in the offseason and he was lambasted for it.

This whole steroid issue is such bunk. I accept and assume that most NFL pros use steroids. It doesn't ruin the game for me. Millions of dollars are at stake and the competition to get a starter's role is fierce. These guys are doing what they can to have an edge.
Thanks for the article, crazyl.

I was prescribed steriods after knee surgery. There is a major difference between healing an injury and going through the physical change al a Barry Bonds.

Yeah, I'm sure anabolic steroids didn't help his performance along in any way, shape, or form. Girl you are too trusting of Southern men.

Although I can't speak from watching Bradshaw play personally (that pesky fact that it was a long time ago) I am fairly certain that he wasn't suddenly racing down the field.

Yeah, from reading the article it was just as likely he was being given cortisone shots. I know newspapers are your bread and butter, but sometimes you have to read between the lines. Why would he come out 30 years later and allude to taking cortisone shots? Come on...

The Steelers pioneered steroid use in the NFL in the 70's at the same time that Nebraska was perfecting it in college. This isn't news.
