Default Packers make an inquiry about Taylor

Quote:
JS Online

After informally asking the Miami Dolphins what they wanted in exchange for defensive end Jason Taylor before the draft, the Packers have kept cursory contact with the Dolphins and have done their homework internally since then.

Packers general manager Ted Thompson recently discussed Taylor with defensive coordinator Bob Sanders and defensive tackles coach Robert Nunn, who both coached Taylor with the Dolphins. Both assistants have a fondness for Taylor and would undoubtedly be in favor of acquiring the 2006 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

And despite what Taylor and the Dolphins have said since Taylor's press conference on May 31, Taylor is very much on the trade market. Acquiring Taylor, who will turn 34 on Sept. 1, would make a lot of sense for the Packers. The 6-foot-6, 255-pound Taylor was a star in the same defensive system with the Dolphins from 1997-2004, when he averaged 10.1 sacks per season
He'd also be a great fit on New England I feel, but no way Dolphins would make that trade. The Packers make sense though.

Update.

Quote:
The Green Bay Packers have expressed an interest in disgruntled Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor, but their inquiries about the "Dancing with the Stars" star have only been preliminary, and a deal remains unlikely at this point, an NFL source said Thursday.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and the Green Bay Press-Gazette both reported that Packers general manager Ted Thompson made an exploratory call to the Dolphins about Taylor, the 2006 defensive player of the year who suffered through Miami's 1-15 season last year and has spent the offseason hoping for a trade to a contender.

Although Taylor said in a press conference three weeks ago that he didn't want to be traded, it seems unlikely he'll remain in Miami under new president Bill Parcells after all that has happened this offseason.

The league source confirmed the Packers' interest, but said significant hurdles stand in the way of a deal: The 33-year-old Taylor's age, the possibility that he only wants to play one more year of football with so much potential off-the-field work, and the Dolphins' potentially too-high asking price for him.

As a Packers fan, I'm only interested in the trade if we can get Taylor for a bargain. Like the article said, what's a player worth if he's only playing one year then retiring? Definitely not a first day draft pick.

Why do people keep saying Taylor would fit with NE? It's a completely different system. What position would you have Taylor playing in a 3-4? Weakside LB? C'mon. Maybe if Taylor was still in the first half of career, but not when he's thinking of only playing one more year.
