NFL Week 1 Sides and Totals
All NFL Plays are -107 unless otherwise noted, lines from canbet.
NFL Overall (0-0-0, 0*)
NFL Sides (0-0-0, 0*)
6* Titans +7 @ Steelers
Steelers’ top two RBs injured, and Roethlisberger led the team to a grand total of zero touchdowns in the preseason. Norm Chow has opened up Titans’ offense, and with a healthy QB McNair and RB Brown, we expect the outright upset.
Prediction: Titans 20, Steelers 14
4* Ravens +3 vs. Colts -115
We don’t know exactly why the Colts are favored here. This is exactly the kind of game they struggle with, that being away from home against a good defensive team. We don’t feel as if the Ravens should be a home underdog to anyone. If Boller can have a breakout year similar to Brees a year ago, the Ravens are a serious Super Bowl contender. The Colts have never been welcome in Baltimore after sneaking out of town to move to Indianapolis.
Prediction: Ravens 21, Colts 13
3* Falcons +1 vs. Eagles (Monday)
This is a weird line with the success the Falcons have had at home recently and the Eagles’ recent turmoil. Super Bowl teams from the previous year are 2-12 ATS on road in opening games.
Prediction: Falcons 21, Eagles 13
3* Chiefs -3 vs. Jets Even
This line has moved down, down, down. We don’t understand why. The Chiefs are 18-4-1 ATS in home openers. The Chief defense, much maligned the past couple years, has improved dramatically and should at least be able to contain the Jets while the Chiefs offense runs wild.
Prediction: Chiefs 27, Jets 17
2* Raiders +7.5 @ Patriots (Thursday)
The Raiders have a powerful offense, and the Patriots defense may actually struggle here after the rash of offseason changes. The defending SB champion is now 6-13-1 ATS last 20 years in opener.
Prediction: Patriots 24, Raiders 23
1* Jaguars -3 vs. Seahawks -115
Seattle makes the short trip to hot and humid Jacksonville looking to learn how to win on the road. We don‘t like their chances here, as the Jaguars have one of the best defenses in the NFL. The Jaguars are 14-5 ATS hosting the NFC.
Prediction: Jags 23, Seahawks 13
1* Dolphins +4.5 vs. Broncos
Miami has historically been great at home ATS in September, and they have covered five in a row against Denver. We feel the Broncos are an overrated entity, and the Dolphin defense should give them a chance to win the game.
Prediction: Dolphins 14, Broncos 13
NFL Totals (0-0-0, 0*)
3* Cardinals @ Giants Under 37.5
The Cardinals have made strides defensively, and should contain RB Barber. The Giants’ D has been solid under Fassel and now Coughlin. We can’t see either team scoring more than 20.
Prediction: Cardinals 14, Giants 13
2* Bears @ Redskins Under 33
Yes, this is a low total, but we think there is a very good reason. Both of these defenses are great, and should shut down these offenses. The Qbs are rookie Kyle Orton and Patrick Ramsey, who has been struggling since coming to the Redskins.
Prediction: Redskins 13, Bears 6
2* Colts @ Ravens Under 46
We know the reputation of the Colts offense, but they always struggle in this kind of game. The addition of DE Simon should help control the Ravens ground game and force QB Boller to the air.
Prediction: Ravens 21, Colts 13
2* Broncos @ Dolphins Under 38.5
Broncos overvalued offense makes the long trip to muggy Miami, where they will face a motivated Miami defense looking to impress new coach Saban. The Dolphins will also struggle to put points on the board with Gus Frerotte at QB, and uncertainty surrounding the running back situation.
Prediction: Dolphins 14, Broncos 13
1* Texans @ Bills Under 38
Here we have two underrated defenses in a low-scoring stadium. The Bills will be able to contain RB Davis, and then force the Texans’ passing game to beat their solid secondary. That’s not going to happen. The Bills are improving offensively, but are still no juggernaut.
Prediction: Bills 20, Texans 10
1* Packers @ Lions Over 45.5
The Packers have gone over 14 of their last 15 on turf. We expect the Lions to have a breakout year offensively, and it starts here at home.
Prediction: Lions 30, Packers 27

I personally think the Cardinals are the better team, but that doesn't mean they will win on the road.

Titans +7 (Defense not as bad as people think it's going to be and offense will be able to score)
Bills -5 1/2 (Like the team all around)
Packers +3 (They are still the Lions)
Bengals -3 -1.25 (Browns will battle the Niners for the 1st pick in the draft)

We missed out on what should have been a huge day yesterday with heartbreaking losses on 6* Ohio State (Two quarterbacks are worse than one. Still should have won if we don't have to try so many field goals, and miss one.) and 5* Alabama (besides handing So. Miss 14 points in the first half, they also fumble going in for the covering TD with 2 minutes left). We did get lucky enough on 1* LSU. We've got some baseball today, to go along with the NFL posted early in this thread.
Baseball Overall (86-69-1, +40.78*)
Baseball Sides (53-41, +46.43*)
2* Rockies (Cook) vs. D’Backs (Ortiz) -145
Cook has been masterful lately, and Ortiz and the D’Backs bullpen have been awful this season.
2* A’s (Kennedy) @ Rangers (Rogers) +116
Rangers are worst team in baseball against lefties, Rogers has been struggling, and the A’s are playing with a since of urgency.
Baseball Totals (33-28-1, -5.65*)
3* Red Sox (Wakefield) @ Yankees (Johnson) Under 9.5 -110
Wakefield always befuddles the Yankees, and he can eat up innings so the Yankees don’t crush the horrible Red Sox bullpen. While Johnson has been erratic, we feel he is going to be like his old self this last month.
2* Pirates (Maholm) @ Reds (Claussen) Under 9.5 -110
Two good unknown pitchers. Pirates are horrible on the road against lefties.
2* Mets (Martinez) @ Cardinals (Morris) Over 7.5 +110
The Cardinals are going over in around 70% of Morris’s starts, and both he and Pedro struggled last time out. There is suspicion Pedro has been hiding an injury.
1* Marlins (Valdez) @ Phillies (Lieber) Under 9.5 -110
Two pitchers who have been at the top of their game recently in what is similar to a playoff series.
1* Astros (Oswalt) @ Brewers (Helling) Over 7.5 -115
Helling is horrible, and Oswalt has been erratic enough to make this a small play.
1* Cubs (Rusch) @ Giants (Tomko) Over 8.5 Even
Two bad pitchers. Don’t expect Rusch to duplicate his performance from last week against St. Louis.
1* Twins (Silva) @ Indians (Lee) Under 8.0 -115
Silva almost never walks anyone, and has been solid throughout his career. Lee has been fabulous for Indians.
