Totals Tuesday
Baseball sides blew up in our face yesterday, but the totals kept us from getting completely smashed. We also had two more easy winners in NCAA football totals (now 6-0), and a frustrating loss on Miami. All in all we lost just a little less than 4*. Coming back with a decent number of games tonight.
Baseball Overall (74-49-1, +55.65*)
Baseball Sides (43-33, +31.80*)
2* Reds (Harang) vs. Brewers (Helling) -1.5 +120
Further information below in our write-up on the total of this game. Basically, Helling is at the top of our list of pitchers we like to fade, and the Reds should crush him and that depleted bullpen.
2* Rockies (Cook) @ Padres (CH Park) +150
We haven’t done any extensive research here, it is more of an expected value situation. Cook, who has been pitching well, will win more than 2 out of every 5 times this matchup takes place.
2* Blue Jays (Lilly) @ O’s (Cabrera) +118
O’s have basically packed it in for the year after finally coming to the realization they went from division leader to out of playoff contention. Cabrera has been bad, and Lilly shouldn’t be an underdog.
Baseball Totals (31-16-1, +23.85*)
5* Cubs (Rusch) @ Cardinals (Morris) Over 9.5 Even
Rusch has never been a quality starter, and last outing he only went 2+ innings, giving up 7 runs against the Dodgers. Today, he meets a much better offensive team in the Cardinals. Meanwhile, Morris has been hurting, and over has been a goldmine in his starts this year.
5* Mets (Martinez) @ Braves (Smoltz) Under 7.0 -120
Mets desperately need to win this game after blowing yesterday’s game against Thomson. They now have to beat either Smoltz or Hudson just to avoid being swept. Pedro has always been good in pressure situations like this. Smoltz has been his usual dominant self, and always has success against the Mets.
5* Angels (Lackey) @ Red Sox (Wakefield) Over 9.5 -125
Two pitchers who have never really had success against tonight’s opposition. Plus, they are playing in that joke of a stadium where any routine flyout can become a double or homer.
5* Rangers (Rogers) @ Twins (Lohse) Under 9.0 -130
The Twins just cannot find a way to score runs, and now they are going against a solid lefty, which has been bad news for them this year. Like yesterday, if the Twins can just stop the Rangers from scoring 7+, we like our chances.
4* Astros (Oswalt) @ Phillies (Lieber) Under 8.0 -135
The first four batters scored in yesterday’s meeting and the game still went under. As mentioned yesterday, this is basically a playoff series, which generally leads to a low scoring game. We don’t look for the Astros to do much against Lieber, who has been pitching well. Oswalt, though a good pitcher, has had some shaky starts this year, which is the only thing stopping this play from being rated higher.
2* Brewers (Helling) @ Reds (Harang) Over 9.5 -105
Helling continues to be atrocious for the Brewers, and we look for the Reds to break out of their mini-slump here. Harang has been pitching well, but will give up enough runs for this one to get over the total. If all else fails, both bullpens have been mediocre at best.

I've never felt so hopeless about a bet as my Pirates ALT RL wager right now. 2 runs on 11 hits and god knows how many stranded runners...

Clijsters is toast. The last few days have convinced me that I'm retarded. Looks like minus 45 units over the last 3 days for me.

Thought she may have had a chance after evening it up 0-2 in the first set, but fell apart late in the first set. Thought Venus was planning on losing as she is dressed up and ready to go out on the town after the match. You have to hope Venus loses her head for awhile, but not looking good.

She's done. No chance. Horrible choking at the Slams continues, way too many UEs and looks ready to give up and lose this set 6-1.
