Question Help me understand this. Regarding Superbowl

I'll admit I'm not an expert with defenses schemes so with that being said I'd like to know how the Giants were able to put so much pressure on Tom Brady and simulateously double team Moss and defend the other NE WRs effectively?

I thought when a team brings as much pressure as the Giants delivered that WRs would be more open or at least open enough? On numerous occasions Brady had little time to throw but he had enough to get a pass out there and just took the sack or threw it away.

So I'd like to know how did the Giants bring so much pressure and still effective defend the WRs?

Giants defense and their defensive coordinator is the real MVP IMO.

Most of the pressure that the Giants were putting on Brady was the front 4...Osi and Tuck were tearing the O-line apart which allowed the MLB's to drop back in coverage on a good number of plays.

I watched the game again, and they brought LBs and sometimes even DBs and Safeties after Brady too.

pressure was coming from the front 4 on 90% of the plays.... Makes it much easier for the 3 linebackers and 4 db's in pass coverage. Linebackers drop into their zones db's lock down and 2 guys on moss at all times. The key was the front 4 though. I mean Brady didnt have any time to scan the field so the front 4 won the game for NYG

The Giants only rushed 4 or 5 players and were still able to pressure Brady. They rushed Brady from different angles and were able to manhandle the offensive line of NE. It wasn't as if they were blitzing LB's or the secondary to achieve that pressure.

They did have a number of plays when they brought the "house" to keep Brady on his heels but it was the D-line that kept the pressure on Brady the entire game.

The time was the factor. NE couldnt pick up the blitz Brady had no time whatsoever.

Josh McDaniels also refused to make key adjustments for most of the game. They came out at halftime basically looking the same. There's a report that surfaced saying McDaniels denied Brady's request to alter the snap count at halftime and alter the gameplan, McDaniels was reported to have said "the gameplan is fine, we're not changing anything", and Brady had a shocked look on his face but he didn't protest. It was reported by ESPN so take it with a grain of salt, was citing a team source.

Very few teams if any have the speed in their front 4 to do what they did. The blitzes were rare, but well timed and effective. Spags had an unbelievable gameplan going in, and the players responded.

Yeah I guess you guys are right they had effective blitzes even when only bringing 4-5 guys. That pretty much explains it. Brady looked so clueless I've never seen him like that.

Best defensive gameplan I've ever seen. Blitzes were coming from different sides.. Brady couldn't read the defenses at all, I know the stats say otherwise but Brady had a bad game. Almost all of his completed passes were safe easy passes.

In the playoffs the Giants defense made Romo,Favre and Brady look very mediocre.

A few plays too they had people step back off the line as to drop into coverage then quickly turn and find a hole and get a free shot at Brady. I know that happened a few times where Brady turned and he had someone barrelling down at his face.

I noticed that too, it was really clever the way they did it. Perfect example was the sack Mitchell did.

If you don't believe in video-spying then maybe you can become a believer now. There is great possibility the Giants have stolen the offensive signals of Patriots offense and the NFL turned a blind eye to punish the Patriots after immense pressure from the 72 Dolphins. The NFL did not want this Patriots team to tarnish the image of the game.

I wouldn't doubt it. Giants were a step ahead on every down it seemed.

When the rush was coming like it was you think they would have threw to the backs instead of throwing downfield
