Default Top 3 Running Back of All Time?

How in the world this guy could pick LT as the best RB of all time has to be the dumbest things I've ever heard. He didn't even have Emmit Smith in his top 3 for christ sakes. If you ask me I still say that Eric Dickerson was the best of all time though.

I wouldn't put Emmitt Smith in the top 5 maybe even Top 8.

He had one of the best offensive lines of all time that opened up HUGE holes bro.

If you notice LT isn't running through or around anyone only straight aways

I say payton and sanders are definite deservers of being mentioned in the all time top RB's. My brother tells me jim brown was one of the greats but I never seen him play first hand, too young. I did however see both payton and sanders and I do think sanders had the greatest ability to make people miss. What about okoye we would carry loads of people and straight run people over like a truck. Sanders was always my favorite.

I agree. Emmit ran through huge holes that any average back could have succeeded. Dickerson was the best I have ever seen.

So why does Emmitt get "punished" for having a line that were great. I'll be curious to see how many of these "great" lineman get into the HOF. I would say they worked well together as a team.

Barry Sanders
Walter Payton
Eric Dickerson

It is really hard to name a top list of backs. Everyones list will vary, and will be interesting to see.

Emmitt Smith shouldn't be punished for his great offensive line, but it usually does. He is in the top 10 for sure.

LT should be in the top 5 and maybe top 3 when his career is all said and done. But not now. Maybe the best "active" back, yes.

I don't really "punish" the guy for having a great line at all. I mean Emmit played with injuries all the time, and had one of his greatest games of all time with a dislocated shoulder against the Eagles.

E Smith drops a few spots because I was sick of his drama every game:

Emmit's down! He's slow to get up - injury timeout. He's on the sideline, hurting. Oh look, he's back in the game! What a tough guy! He breaks thru - 8 yards, touchdown!

Honestly, he did this so often it made me sick. I don't see those "injuries" affecting his post-football activities too much (freakin' dance queen).

Nate N EWTON
Erik Williams
Larry Allen
Ray Donaldson
Mark Tuinei

Imagine what Barry Sanders would of done with these guys?

I think the fact the Edgarrin James rushing for 3.1 ypc with Arizona's O-LINE proves my point about Emmitt Smith.

That is always my argument when I get into it about Barry and Emmitt.

Barry is by far the better of the two.

Win- Jim Brown- the guy was at a different level.
Place- O.J.Simpson- The guy could make some great cut backs!
Show- Barry Sanders-The guy did some freaky stuff.
Also ran includes Payton, Dickerson,Riggins,Arnett,Thomas,Sayers,K elly,Faulk,Smith.

don't forget about the all-pro fullback, tightend, receiver, and qb as well. emmit was surrounded by weapons which obviously helped him. not taking anything away from emmit, but even an average back would have been succesful in that system

You guys kill me when you try to evaluate Emmitt.

Why do the same comparisons not come up with Jerry Rice and/or Joe Montana and all the other pro bowl caliber players they had. I'll admit Barry Sanders had more raw talent but Emmitt did what he did and he played hurt ala the famous playoff game against the Giants w/ a separated shoulder.

You guys seem to put him in the same category as Bonds as if he was on steroids.

How come Edgarrin James only rushed for 3.1ypc when he went to the Cards?

What was his career average per rush? How many yards did he end up with?

Right. He really sucked.

Most overrated player in the history of not only the NFL, but all major sports. Typical of how the American public likes flashiness over productivity. He wasn't a good receiver or blocker and his career playoff numbers are pathetic, but because he made highlight reel moves sometimes, everyone thinks he was amazing.

Another one of the famous "injuries " Emmitt miraculously came back from. He had about 6 of those a year.

exactly. people fail to realize he wasn't productive. he had 5.0 yds / carry because he'd get stuffed 10/12 plays but have a few long runs...

do you know what a median is?? look it up for barry sanders, and get back to me...it's no where near 5 per carry. yds/carry is deceiving because of outliers....

sorry i want a guy that's going to get me yds in the trenches, time after time...not someone that's goin to get stuffed 10 times in a row, kill 5 consecutive drives, then break off a meaningless 70 yd carry when the game is already over and the defense is tired from stuffing him all day

5 yards per rush, is just that. No matter how you get it. He wouldn't get stuff all the time if the offensive line was a bit better, maybe like Emmitt had.

I know you will come up with something else, to try and prove a point.
