Default CFL - Montreal at Winnipeg

Bet Blue Bombers -4½ vs Alouettes

Game Time: 07/05/2007 08:00 PM
By: Ben Burns | sportspic.com

It's still early in the season, but Montreal already appears to be in trouble. With no offense to speak of, look for the Alouettes to fall on the road to the Winnipeg Bombers.

It's never wise to read too much into one game but last week's home loss to Saskatchewan showed that Montreal has some serious issues.

While the revamped defense played reasonably well, the offense was ineffective. Quarterback Anthony Calvillo had three interceptions and no touchdowns. In fact, with the exception of a "single" on a missed field goal, all of Montreal's points came off conceded safeties by the Roughriders. The offense is bound to be somewhat better this week. However, will it really improve enough to match points with a Blue Bombers' offense that scored 39 points on the road last week?

Winnipeg running back Charles Roberts had four rushing touchdowns last week and receiver Milt Stegall will surely break the record and officially become the CFL's all-time touchdown king. Stegall currently is tied for the all-time lead in touchdowns with 137. In addition to having home field advantage, the Bombers have had an extra day of preparation time as they played last Thursday while Montreal played on Friday.

This is a chance for the Bombers to put some distance between themselves and their guests. They should be able to seize the opportunity with a win and cover. Consider a play on Winnipeg.

Free Pick: Winnipeg -4½

Winnipeg -4½ to bomb Montreal

Game Time: 07/05/2007 08:00 PM
By: Brian Gabrielle | procappers.com

Receiver Milt Stegall will get his CFL TD record and then some on Thursday night for Winnipeg when the Blue Bombers host the Montreal Alouettes at Canad Inns Stadium.

Thursday the Alouettes meet the Bombers for the first time this year. If last week is any indication of what is to come it will go something like this: Bombers will score first - Als will play catchup - turnovers by Montreal will give the Bombers a double digit lead.

Montreal's passer, Anthony Calvillo, is missing some key receivers and he does not get the protection he needs to execute. Lots of new faces for the Alouettes and the chemistry is just not there yet. New Coach, new game plan.

Winnipeg, on the other hand, put on a clinic at Edmonton last week with the game ending 39-39 in double OT. They gave as good as they got. Milt Stegall needs one more touchdown to get the CFL lifetime record of the most touchdowns in the history of the league. He will and then some today. Take the side on Winnipeg.

Free Pick: Winnipeg -4½
