PHILADELPHIA -- An arbitrator has upheld the Philadelphia Eagles' four-game suspension of Terrell Owens, and the team has the right to deactivate him.

During his weekly press conference earlier in the day, coach Andy Reid refused say what he would do in response to the arbitrator's ruling.

Arbitrator Richard Bloch heard more than 13 hours of arguments last week.

Owens' side argued the penalty is excessive and the Eagles' plan, which is to deactivate him when that time is up, is too severe. Owens sought reinstatement to the Eagles or a release so he can sign with another team.

The Eagles maintained the suspension was fair and are willing to pay Owens about $1 million to stay home the final five games.

Owens was suspended Nov. 5 after he again criticized quarterback Donovan McNabb, called the organization "classless" and fought with former teammate Hugh Douglas, who serves as team "ambassador."

Two days later, the Eagles extended the suspension to four games and told Owens not to return to the team. The reigning conference champions are 0-3 without Owens and 4-6 overall, last in the NFC East.

Owens has five years remaining on a seven-year, $48.97 million contract that he signed when he came to Philadelphia in March 2004. His problems started when he demanded a new contract after an outstanding season in which he caught 77 passes for 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns, helping the Eagles reach the Super Bowl.

With Owens, the Eagles are 17-5 over two seasons. Without him, they're 2-5, including two meaningless losses and two playoff wins.

I don't know what everyone else thinks of this decision, but I am very happy T.O. didn't win. It is nice to have a sport that allows for every team to be able to compete. If T.O. would have won, I think it would have proved to all players who didn't get more money or didn't get traded, just to be such an A**hole that the team had to trade him or pay up.

NEW YORK -- The Philadelphia Eagles have filed a tampering complaint against the Dallas Cowboys after Dallas owner Jerry Jones suggested on a radio show that his team is often interested in players such as suspended wide receiver Terrell Owens.

"In general, I am a risk-taker. We've gone down that road," Jones said when asked if the Cowboys might be interested in Owens. "I probably have a propensity to try and make things work. ... A top receiver could flourish with Drew Bledsoe. That's always appealing."

NFL spokesman Michael Signora confirmed Sunday the Eagles filed the complaint over Jones' remark and said "the matter is under review."

Jerry Jones is a blathering idiot.

I listened to the interview. (You can find it on DallasCowboys.com. It's the 11/16 weekly interview.) Jones first says that he can't say anything due to rules about tampering, then goes ahead and talks about Owens as a player, and further about "Owens-type" situations. Ugh. The guy is guilty of idiocy, no doubt. I'm not sure about tampering, it'll take a lawyer to sort through that interview, IMO.

I'm following the Cowboys closely, ever since Parcells landed in Dallas. Coaching the Cowboys seems like an impossible task with such a meddling idiot of an owner. If sanctions come down against the Cowboys franchise because of this, it's really a shame for Parcells.
