Default Adam Shefter: Oakland to Release CB DeAngelo Hall

They paid him $8 thus far this year and gave up a 2nd round pick. Too bad he is overrated and all about himself.

I have seen him enough on tape to know he's terrible. He's like a slow Terrel Buckley. Pedestrian receivers leave him in the dust. I sure as hell wouldn't want him on my team - not the way he talks junk and horrible he plays.

McBain, unfortunately I watch him every Sunday as a Raider fan. He plays "off" and lets the WR he is covering take 10 yards, for free, every single time. On the rare occasion he tries to press, he gets burned; and badly. It stuns me that he was ever a pro bowler... he gets picked on non stop every single game.

a 2nd round draft pick, a 5th rounder, and $24.5 million out the window.

Smart move, Al.

He will get shit on by the media, but I like Al making this move if he does waive him. Far too often owners/GMs make bad decisions and then just stand by them; Davis realized he made a bad move and is fixing it ASAP. I respect that.

I feel for ya, man.
I always thought he was totally over-rated. Heck, when he was on the block in Atlanta, I blasted him on these forums. How you speak about Hall is exactly how I've always seen him play - he's like a crappy Terrel Buckley (who had a long career as a dime back).

He had pretty good coverage on the 1st touchdown to Jenkins, but as always, if he can't get the pick, he doesn't really contest the ball or the catch. It was a damn fine throw.

The 2nd TD, though, in the 2nd quarter - Jenkins just blew by him. It was like watching Jerry Rice go up against a 5th string dime back. It was pathetic. Hall might have thought he had coverage over the top, but that type of route combo would not have had the help. I was laughing in my chair thinking 'god damn, I thought there was some horrible DBs in the league - but that kind of seperation against a guy that is that weak of a receiver? He made Jenkins look like Tim Brown in his younger days... And frankly, Jenkins has good measureables and that's about it.

Then you watch Asomugha - and you're wondering how the raiders can't stuff 8 in the box every play and just dominate. That guy is just sick. Warren Sapp said he thought he is better than Prime Sanders. The guy plays EVERY play and makes plays all over the field - even though that's not his responsibility.

It's a shame, but it was a good risk by the Raiders, it's just Hall is a punk, a loser and really just a good CB in his own mind.

I read a lot about the Raiders the past few days - I like how Al Davis is losing it on all his high priced free agents. They have such a nice core of young talent - and so many 'I got my money' guys. They really need to rebuild entirely - and dump a lot of those massive contracts. I think it'l take 2-3 years to kill off the dead wood and eat the dead money. If they dump Hall now and Javon Walker now (among others), they will be hurting for next year's cap significantly. Hopefully someone will take some of the prima dona attitude to task and make those guys care again... That loss on Sunday was easily the worst performance of any team I've seen in a LONG time. The good news is, not everyone on that team quit - but I was really not impressed with how Jemarcus Russel handled things...

Step one to turning that team around is to lock Asomugha to a long term contract... That would be a great start. No idea why you'd spend so freely bringing guys in when you have the best player at his position on your roster. That's where the money should go.

Great write up man.

I just hope this is possible. Asomugha has to be looking around saying shit, I have to get out of here ASAP... no matter how much money we throw his way I just don't know that he doesn't leave when he gets the chance to go play somewhere where football might actually be fun.

So glad the Falcons got rid of this guy when they did. Self proclaimed best corner in the league
