    Default Patriots +2.5 @ NYJ, OU 36

Is this easy money? it kind of looks like an overreaction. The Patriots are not a 1 man team. Which team has the better defense? Better receivers? Better coach? Just wondering what others think.

    It's a combination of:

    1) Over reaction and shock from Brady out for season
    2) Pats' poor performance versus a terrible team
    3) Favre

I like this line for the Pats a lot, but easy money I'm not sure about. At this point the only advantage the Jets have is QB IMO.

I give the Jets a better QB and a better secondary. I give the Patriots better WR's, a better defensive line, and small advantages in the running game and in the linebacker corps (partly due to the fact that the Patriots made it their must improve area in the draft). Jets -2.5 really is a ballsy line.

You are probably right about the secondary, but as a reader of FO you should know how good the Pats' running game was last year despite what conventional stats said. I think if need be Maroney can effectively pound the rock 20-25 times a game. And no matter who the QB is, Moss deserves special attention from the defense. The Pats' offense can still be dangerous but it's their defense I am a little worried about.

Nevertheless, Jets -2.5 seems a little crazy to me as well. Reading some of the gut reaction articles from some writers, however, leads me to believe that there is a common public opinion that the Bills and/or Jets could unseat the Pats in the East. That IS crazy to me but makes some sense out of this line.

And don't forget that the Jets came within 10 yards of losing to Miami.

Agreed. The Jet's were an offensive pass-interference penalty away from embarrassing themselves against the Fins. The Pats here could be the best pick all of Week 2!

Jets and Pats both almost lost to shitty teams.

The Chiefs are a better team than the Dolphins btw.

I think the UNDER is a good possibility. Favre's still learning the playbook and Matt Cassell is well Matt Cassell. At his point both defenses are much better than both offenses.

The only thing dominating about the Pats' defense is their d-line. I think their offense is still better than their defense, even with Cassel. I trust Belichick to tweak the offense to fit Cassel a little better; the offense is still loaded and versatile.
