    Default 49ers ink Brian Westbrook

His legs and hands certainly have a couple good years of catching balls out of the backfield, but his concussions are a big concern. I really wish he'd just hang it up.

yeah dude is a great look for sf. its a low risk high reward move and he offers a nice change of pace to gore and dixon who are power backs but i dont want to see this guy get another concussion

Great fit. They don't have to rely on him except as a speciality back on 3rd downs and he can work his way into the rotation. If this works out, it's fantastic for Alex Smith to have another savvy veteran helping him out on those critical 3rd downs.

I know concussions are a big deal, but I'm sure everyone involved is very aware of the risks and I expect professionalism all the way.

I think he would make a great 3rd down back to run pass patterns, something Gore isn't exactly known for.

No chance someone who has had that type of brain trauma makes it to 70. Highly doubtful.

I will say it is a great fit on both sides though.

I really hope he doesn't get another concussion. He can still make an impact in the right situation. I don't think he's lost as much as people think, the only real concern for me is the concussions and his ongoing knee issues.

SF is finally going to the playoffs Westbrook has seen his better years but he will add veteran leadership and be a nice 3rd down option...

I don't think he's lost much of anything. Pass catching RBs rely more on agility than brute force and I think he could still play for several years. I just think he really shouldn't. Those back to back concussions were scary and the word was that doctors were telling him he was done. As others in this thread alluded to, retirement already might be unpleasant for B-West, another big knock and he could be a veggie.

Gore's going to get injured at some point of the season... Westbrooke is certainly a decent replacement

Great pick-up to give Gore a relief on some 3rd downs. Hope he can stay healthy.
