    Angry Roethlisberger suspended six games

Ben Roethlisberger could miss up to six games in 2010 after NFL commissioner Roger Goodell disciplined the Steelers quarterback today for violating the league's personal conduct policy.
The league announced today that Roethlisberger, who has been accused of sexual assault twice since July, has been suspended six games and ordered to undergo a behavorial evaluation by Goodell.
Goodell suspended Roethlisberger immediately, meaning the two-time Super Bowl winner is not allowed to participate in any offseason workouts or practices. Goodell said Roethlisberger would be allowed to attend training camp, which starts in late July, only if Goodell gets confirmation from "evaluating professionals" that Roethlisberger is ready to continue football-related activities.
Goodell could reduce the suspension to four games if Roethlisberger meets all of the conditions attached to his punishment.
NFL.com and ESPN.com are reporting that the Steelers are actively shopping Roethlisberger.
The team reportedly had a brief conversation over the weekend with the St. Louis Rams, but the Rams were not interested, according to NFL.com. The Steelers also have called the 49ers, Raiders, Bills, Jaguars, Seahawks and Browns, ESPN.com reports, and the Bills aren't interested either.
Here is what Goodell wrote to Roethlisberger in a letter:
"The Personal Conduct Policy makes clear that I may impose discipline 'even where the conduct does not result in conviction of a crime' as, for example, where the conduct 'imposes inherent danger to the safety and well being of another person'," Goodell wrote. "As the District Attorney concluded, the extensive investigatory record shows that you contributed to the irresponsible consumption of alcohol by purchasing (or facilitating the purchase of) alcoholic beverages for underage college students, at least some of whom were likely already intoxicated. There is no question that the excessive consumption of alcohol that evening put the students and yourself at risk. The Personal Conduct Policy also states that discipline is appropriate for conduct that 'undermines or puts at risk the integrity and reputation of the NFL, NFL clubs, or NFL players.' By any measure, your conduct satisfies that standard."
The Steelers, bracing for a lengthy suspension Tuesday, traded for veteran quarterback Byron Leftwich, who backed up Roethlisberger in 2008.
Roethlisberger was not charged following an accusation by a 20-year-old college student that he sexually assaulted her in Milledgeville, Ga., on March 5. The allegations and details that have emerged from the Milledgeville incident led to Goodell taking unprecedented action against Roethlisberger.
Roethlisberger is the first player to receive a major suspension for violating the personal conduct policy even though his off-the-field incidents have never resulted in an arrest.
Steelers president Art Rooney II condemned Roethlisberger's off-the-field behavior last week and said the two-time Super Bowl has to regain the trust of the Steelers and their fans.
"We support the level of discipline and the plan for personal evaluation," Rooney said today on a conference call. "I know (Roethlisberger's) intent here is to follow the program that the commissioner sets out and it's our hope and our expectations is what we're going to do."
Roethlisberger practiced with the Steelers Monday and Tuesday. He did not speak to reporters after either practice.
If Roethlisberger is re-instated by Goodell after four games, he will miss games against the Falcons (Sept. 12) and Ravens (Oct. 3) at home and against the Titans (Sept. 19) and Buccaneers (Sept. 26) on the road.
If Roethlisberger serves the entire suspension, he will also be out for a home game against the Browns (Oct. 17) and a road contest against the Dolphins (Oct. 24).
Roethlisberger has only missed nine games since becoming the Steelers' starting quarterback as a rookie in 2004.

Colts won't discipline Foster because no charges were filed

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Polian: Colts won't discipline Foster
ESPN.com's Paul Kuharsky writes about all things AFC South in his division blog.

A 22-year-old hotel receptionist is suing Foster, claiming that he sexually assaulted her in his room at an Indianapolis hotel before the AFC Championship Game on Jan. 24.

Polian said Wednesday that the team has no reason to discipline Foster because police investigated the incident and prosecutors later decided not to file charges.

For years the Steeler organization has been one of the model franchises in pro sports. All we hear is that this organization is such a "family." That's such BS, and it's being proven right now. If the Steelers really were a family the Rooney's would have made a statement weeks ago that they're behind Ben, and when no files were charged would have stood even taller. Just because you don't agree with a family members actions doesn't mean you don't support em. If a family member was accused of something you would stand by them, until they were proven guilty. And then even though they made a mistake you would still support them and help in there recovery. Hell no one has been proven guilty in this case. It's drunk sorority girls words against Ben's. Instead they have offered no support for a fellow "family" member. The Rooney's are more worried about their name than what's best for the organization. And anybody who thinks trading 7 is best for the "family' obviously doesn't like winning football games. The Steelers once squeaky clean image isn't what made this franchise so popular, winning 6 Super Bowl championships is. If they trade 7 get used to losing.

If Al Davis swindles Art Rooney II the Steelers are the joke of the league and all summer we will hear about how the Raiders took the Steelers to the cleaners.

Especially when Ben leads the Raiders to the playoffs and teh Steelers go 4-12 behind Dixon and Fat Albert, or worse Jimmy Clausen.

This is the battle of who is more stupid?

In one corner we have Al Davis the Crypt keeper who hasn't made a good move in decades. In the other corner we have a seeminly senile egomaniac trying to please Comrade Goodell and show he's not just hiding in daddy's shadow.

The Crypt keeper recently drafted the likes of the Russell at QB with the #1 pick, and traded a 1st rounder to the Pats for an over the hill DT.

The egomaniac just dumped a Superbowl MVP and one of the best WRs in the league for a 5th round pick, making the decision and trade over the period of a few hours.

Who is more stupid? Right now its seems Art Rooney II is trying so hard to be the DUMBEST owner/president in professional sports.

    Ben should demand a trade!

Charged with nothing, is suspended and thrown to the wolves by hypocrit ownership.

He should totally **** the organization. They are trying to sell their most valuable stock at it's lowest point (idiots). If I were 7, I would demand a trade and put it out in the papers, further weakening their hand and forcing them to take crap in return.

The dude is already loaded from his rookie contract and his new $100M contract in which he has bookoo of biskies from his signing bonus and his guaranteed money. He's got options for sure!!!

I'd absolutely want out and couldn't blame Ben for wanting out of what has become a joke of an organization.

    **** the Rooneys!

They're not suspending him because he committed a crime, they're doing it because he's putting a bad face on the NFL. Would you keep an employee (or expect your employer to keep you) if you were in any other business and they were accused for the second time of sexual assault?

That being said, I don't care at ALL about my athletes morals. They could run an all-prison team and if they won consistently I'd be happy. I hate the suspension because I just want to see the best athletes play. I would rather my pro sports teams and leagues be better on the field than noble.

Not to mention bought off the night club to destroy the evidence.

I think this was the best way to handle the situation. I love that Goodell's given him access to serious counseling and an incentive to use it. This has a better chance of rehabilitating him than prison, and it's a rare case of actually holding an athlete accountable instead of trying as hard as possible to cover up any misdeed.

This is the difference (I will NOT argue back and forth, so just read along):

Even though no charges were filed in both cases, the Roethlisberger Georgia hoedown had more in the report that was used as PROOF of violation of the personal conduct/ethics/moral turpitude policy.

In the Indianapolis Colt players case, the report amounted to he said, she said.

    Big difference.

    Done.

    Happy NFL Draft Day.

EDIT: And Happy Earth Day, too, beezies.

I liked steve young`s comments. And he can talk all he wants because young showed his class during his entire career in USFL and NFL

Tom Jackson held back no punches too

Art Rooney would have waived this guy by now. I have always hated the steelers for rivalries sake but respected the Rooneys

Charges were never filed against Roethlisberger for anything in Reno or Georgia, so that has nothing to do with the NFL taking action. (Yes, I agree that Ben is an immature, stupid 28-year-old going on 15.) It's a very slippery slope that the commissioner is going down; one of these Sundays he might wake up to discover one of his teams can't play because too many players have been suspended.
