Default If traded to the Raiders, Donovan McNabb would have retired

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...-have-retired/

A week ago, the Raiders were regarded as the favorites to land Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb. According to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, however, McNabb intended to never play for the Raiders.

Per Cole, McNabb made it known to the Eagles through McNabb's associates that McNabb would retire if traded to Oakland.

"He has plenty of money," a source close to McNabb told Cole. "He's not doing anything he doesn't want to do."

While McNabb would have given up $11.2 million in 2010 compensation if he had retired, the Raiders would have not been able to collect money previously paid to McNabb, like the Bucs ultimately did with Jake Plummer several years ago. The signing bonus proration on McNabb's 2002 extension concluded in 2009, and his "financial apology" from last year did not include (as far as we can tell) a signing bonus, which is the only form of compensation that can be recovered if a player retires with years remaining on the proration.

i would do the same thing. Hell if I was drafted by the raiders, id rather sit out a year than be locked up there for 3 or more years.

so why doesn't he just retire anyways? He's not making the playoff's this year as a starter...

I wish they would have called his bluff and traded him to the Raiders. Trading him within the division was stupid.

    Yea let him retire
    screww the raiders

could that really happen or would the trade be voided?? For a player to retire immediatley upon a trade agreement...

I doubt he's too excited about playing for the skins. It's hard to go play for a rival you have loathed your whole career. But Favre did it. Favre felt he got a raw deal, so revenge was no doubt a factor. Will it be the same for McNabb?

I doubt McNabb would have retired. He's still got a lot of career left.

In any case, I think it was an understanding between Reid, McNabb and maybe even Shannahan that make this deal make sense.

Well if this story is true in any part, then I give the Eagles a little punch of respect for the class they showed in dealing him to a better team. Could bite them, but Reid was always in McNabb's corner.

I pity any Raiders fans who think they will be competitive in the next 5 years.

Raiders are in disarray and seem to get more pathetic and dumber every year...That being said, if you are a true man, you can overcome it. DeAngelo Hall told Mcnabb not to go there cause D. Hall hated it, but D-hall, the problem was you more than anything. Nnamdi and Seymour carried the Defense last year to some big wins over good teams because they have character...

There is some talent and heart on the Offense as well with Lois Murphy and Zach Miller...They should have more, but again they are The Raiders and drafted a receiver last iyear with the 7th pick that would not have even made the team if he wasn't such a high pick.

Raiders are an amazing team considering jabustus russell tries to lose the game everytime he starts, 4 of their 5 wins were against playoff teams. If a pro bowl QB was with the raiders they would make the playoffs
