Default Polian, O-Line and Special Teams To Blame For Colts Loss

I don't think the special teams or offensive line threw the pick six.

Indianapolis Colts president Bill Polian is pointing fingers after his team's 31-17 loss to the New Orleans Saints in the Super Bowl.
The offensive line and special teams are to blame for the loss, Polian told the Colts' Web site on Wednesday.
"Our offensive line, by our standards, did not have a good game," Polian told NFL.com. "They were outplayed by the Saints' defensive line. Our special teams, in terms of handing the ball -- both in the return game and on the onside kick -- were outplayed by the Saints. Therein lies the result. It had nothing to do with strategy or preparedness or toughness or effort."
The Colts' offensive line has been criticized after a playoff loss in the past. Quarterback Peyton Manning said there were "problems in protection" after a loss to the Steelers in the 2005 AFC divisional round.
Polian said the Super Bowl simply came down to execution.
"There were certain situations throughout the game where we didn't execute -- most notably, the failure to get the first down and run the clock out at the end of the first half after a magnificent goal-line stand and then, of course, the failure to handle the onside kick," Polian told NFL.com. "We had four things we could have done positively on that play. We didn't do any of them. That absolutely changed the game. It went from our getting the ball on their 40-yard line to having them march down for a touchdown. Then, our inability to punch it in from first-and-goal on the 3. Those situations, we did not execute."

On the INT, CLARK was free down the middle for an easy TD..........MANNING MISSED HIM.

Look at the replay to confirm this.

id say play calling before the half was certainly a big factor as giving the saints those points after the goalline stand was big....Cant argue special teams if the dipshit that let the ball bounce off his face recovers it i would think that the game takes on a entirely different feel.....far as the o-line goes that is some bs

Having said that, the OL did not do a good job.........but credit has to be given to the outstanding Saints DL and LB's, as they pressured Manning just like like they advertised before the game.

The colts need to beef up the line and get more of a running game. Exactly what the Saints did this year.

Bottom line is the Colts did not play even close to their A game. It was more like a B minus showing. The two big situations I go back to in this game was the dropped third down pass by Garsone and the 51 yard fg attempt by Stover.

I agree that the OL didn't have a great game. However, the coach has to make adjustments during the game if his offensive line is having trouble.

The Colts aren't that great. They never were. Apparently the hype fooled a lot of people.

Exactly, it's never "Mr October" Manning's fault. The year they won the Super Bowl, Manning had 3 touchdowns and 7 interceptions in that postseason, but they won b/c of Manning.

Colston also had a big 3rd down drop for the Saints when he was wide open. A 51 yard field goal for a 42 year kicker isn't exactly a gimme. I was actually kind of surprised Colts didn't go for it in that situation even on 4th and long.

of course when the o-line outplays their opponent, Manning gets all the credit.
