Default Turner to Remain In Charge in San Diego

Norv Truner will re returning to coach the San Diego Chargers for a 4th season next year. In his previous 3 seasons,Turner's Chargers have won the very weak AFC West, and have won 3 out of 6 playoff games, something that the Chargers were not able to do in their previous 10+ years under various HC's. As a matter of fact, the Chargers only won 3 playoff games from 1984-2006.

He is a good coach but I sure do not think he had his team prepared for the Jets. Tactically or emotionally.

IMO SD played sloppy in many categories, might have been overconfident.

After SD annihilated Tennessee late in the season I thought they were Super Bowl bound.

Obviously, so did San Diego. There was more talk about their game against Indianapolis, (you know, the one that never came to fruition) out here in So Cal than there was about the Jets game. San Diego is famous for this. Always looking every place except straight ahead. They always see what is 10 yards downfield, but never what is in front of their noses.

How could he be a good coach, yet not have his team prepared?I think he's a loser and sucks as a coach. He's got a lot of talent on that team, was a touchdown favorite at home..........and lost. The Chargers are the Eagles of the AFC.Loads of talent, but just can't get over the hump.Just like Andy Reid,Norv was rewarded for not being good enough.I'm an Eagles fan and cannot stand Andy Reid so I know how Charger fans must be feeling. The commitment to being a playoff team, but not winning a superbowl remains intact.Neither of these coaches will ever win anything.

It is about time that San Diego fans wake up and smell the coffee. Stop blaming the coaches and put the blame sqaurely where it belongs. On the PLAYERS!!! Where Was L.T. on Sunday? Where was Sproles? Where was Merriman? Where was Rivers? Where was the defense that gave up a 56 yard run to a team that the entire world knew was going to try to run and eat up the clock? It is the same B.S. for San Diego every year, and every year people cry: "Fire the Head Coach". Maybe San Diego should find some players who actually want to win. Now that would be a nice change.

So no good coach, ever, has ever let his team look past a perceived weak opponent to the big game afterwards?

    Agree.

Also, sadly, LT is not AT ALL what he used to be... they should have used Sproles a lot more IMO.

L.T. is gone, and it will be quickly. San Diego must pay him a bonus if he is still on the roster on Feb 7th, I believe. Look forSan Deigo to cut him before then. Rumor also has it that Merriman is also gone. Between his Roids and his handling of the ladies, he has worn out his welcome in San Diego. He never returned to greatness after he tore up his knee, and then got nailed using Roids. San Diego needs to find a RB who can handle the load. They had also better find some players who actually want to play.

Of course look aheads happen all the time, but in a playoff game at home favored by a touchdown? That's unacceptable.Sure players need to be held accountable, but if the gameplan is crap is it really gonna matter who's out there?Old "2 yard" Tomlinson is done, everyone knows this................except Norv,obviously.L.T.....12 carries-24 yards,Sproles 3 for 33.You say Norv is a good coach, yet follow it with-he did not have his team prepared, and he should have used Sproles more.He is not a good coach-he is a loser.Doesn't the responsibility of having your team prepared and having your best players on the field fall on the coach? He did neither of these things so he should be criticized..............and NOT given an extension. Also,if the players on your team continually come up short it is the coaches job to make the neccessary changes.

I don't mind the continuity. With a new coach and staff, we'd have to start all over again, with a new system and a new direction. It may not really be a bad idea, except we'd lose the connection and development that Norv has with Rivers. Rivers needs to further develop, to reach his maximum potential as a QB, and this is where Norv is needed.

On the other hand, I don't mind bumping Norv down to an offensive coordinator job, and bring someone else at the helm, a strong disciplinary type.

They will never win with Norv....No discipline on the team. I been saying fire the guy for the last two years.

A real exciting day in the NFL yesterday with the announcements of Wade Phillips returning as Cowboys coach , Chan Gailey hired as Bills coach , and Norv returning to San Diego . A yawning trifecta .

Yeah I don't like Norv either, but at least San Diego is a contender pretty much every year, theres about 10 teams that would love to just make the playoffs , so count your blessings. They also have the worst running game I've ever seen I think and they still managed to get a 2 seed in the playoffs. If SD can find a running back to compliment Rivers and take some pressure off the passing game they will be very dangerous next year.

Never trust Norv in a big game. He's basically a glorified coordinator.
