Default The Choke of the Year Award

Nominations are now open for the Choke of the Year Award, handed out to the team that pulled the biggest overall choke job of the year. I nominate the Denver Broncos, who started out 6-0, had a bye week, and finished 2-8 to blow the playoffs once again. 4 of Denvers losses came at home, and 4 of their losses cam against non-playoff teams. Feel free to nominate your Choke of th Year Team here. I will have a vote next week.

Yeah, I was thinking about the Giants too. Giants choked so terribly that people forget that they started out 5-0.

So far, we have Denver and the Giants. I'm suprised no one has mentioned the Steelers, the defending Superbowl champs wo could not beat Okaland or Kansas City.

Pretty good choke, but they were battling injuries. Plus the Super Bowl hangover. The Steelers did this exact same choke last time they won the Super Bowl, so it wasn't as surprising this time. Polumalu got the Madden Curse and maybe saved Fitz from getting it! Not so much choke, but cursed.

id nominate baltimore if they did not make the playoffs. But, their previous kicker could take the individual award.

The Giants were never any good! They went 5-0 and who did they play? NOBODY! The Skins, TB, KC, OAK (Arguably the worst 4 teams in the NFL), and a Dallas team that was a shell of what they are right now, by 2 points. Problem was all the stuck up Giants fans proclaimed them the second coming and everybody got a false sense of the capabilities of this team.

Steelers. They are the worst. Had an easy schedule, got some bullshit calls from the refs to win the Vikings game.

Has to be Denver. They were given so many chances to lock up a playoff spot and couldn't do it.

The Giants were marred by injuries. That Broncos/Raiders game was pathetic.

Denver for sure big daddy that is my vote ,nothing new for them. ASK YOUR SELF What causes a team to fall into thtat patent , easy answer is INJURIES in key positions once the player goes down their is no one to fill in thus DENVER WITH a great start has a pathetic finish

gotta be the steelers. losing to the browns, KC and oakland is just plain ridiculous.
Oakland was especially bad since they were winning going into the 4th and the KC loss, as they were up 10 at halftime
they gave up way too many points at the end of the game

I say Colt's although the story is still in production but for the simple fact to pass up the opportunity to become the the greatest team of all time by going undefeated and guaranteeing without a question Payton Manning to be put on the throne and crowned best QB of all time and now they have triple the pressure on them to win the Superbowl because of their decision to rest starters they have done this around 5 or 6 times now and have not won a Superbowl yet under this theory however the one they did win they fought through the whole season to scratch their way into the playoffs so they didn't have the option to rest starters so with this said the odds are not in their favor so I say we postpone the vote until after the Superbowl because if they do not win the title of world champions well then they will be without a question labeled the choke of the season if not ALLTIME!!! not because of talent and ability to win but because of blatant stupidity of management

If this happens it will be more satisfying to me than my own team winning the Superbowl cause I will celebrate for a week strait doing every drug and concoction known to man since 684 B.C.

pauly its not going to be a choke job losing to sd in the afc championship game sd is a better team and therefore making the undefeated season until that point irrelevant as if they were undefeated it would not change there inevitable fate...manning whether or not he ever wins another superbowl will be considered one of the best if not the best qb of all time all he needed was 1 with those numbers to seal that deal ...i gotta believe you are still a tad bitter because they laid down and cost your steelers a shot(which they honestly didnt deserve and wouldnt have got in anyway with hou winning)..den is the easy obvious choice for this award hell there on pace for the lifetime achievement choke job award as it seems to be a recurring theme with them

Will it be a choke job if they lose to the Jets Ravens Bengals or Patriots????

sure if you wanna call it that...still not as bad as den pissing away a playoff opportunity again....but honestly i do not think they lose before sd comes to town...its ok you can admit it your still bitter when at the end of the day your anger is misguided my friend as you should be angry with your team not any1 else...do you remember the we are going to unleash hell speech before the cle game? in which they decided to go out and get manhandled by the browns? im giving them a pass for the choke job award because of the injurys but losing to the browns in that thur game may be the biggest single game choke job of the year

New Orleans choke badly at end and totally choked verus Dallas when they could of had it all. They had a big opportunity to replace Dallas as America's team and let down millions besides themselves. New Orleans was on top and will finish nowhere, not sure of numbers but believe last five played including next week 1 win of 5.

I cant nominate denver, from the beginning of the year anyone without their beer goggles on could see denver was overrated and their big losing streak was no suprise.

That's a good point. Denver was supposed to be rebuilding anyway. Still an impressive meltdown, though.

That brings it back to the Giants, who were coming off being the #1 seed in the NFC last year. The slide goes back to last year, finishing 1-3 in the regular season and then 0-1 in the playoffs. Ever since Plax shot himself, they haven't been the same.

I gotta throw the New Orleans out there. Losing the final 3 games, two of them to Carolina and TB. Massive choke that I expect will continue in the playoffs.

b/c of the 6-0 start and other things mentioned here, it has to be the Broncos. Jay Cutler is a close second

Jim Caldwell (Colts)...we're still pissed in Indy! They can worry about Reggie Wayne/Dallas Clark reaching 100 catches apiece but they can't go for history? Makes no fcn sense whatsoever

I will say that the theory that the Colts suck in the playoffs because the starters have rested too much is BS! In 2005, Dungy's kid killed himself and he got badly outcoached by Bill Cowher! In 2007...the Colts were banged up...bye week or no bye week....no Freeney....Mathis/Marvin Harrison were crippled and San Diego nipped us! I don't have a problem with resting players just not when you're 14.75-0 on the FCN SEASON

Denver is the first one that popped into my head, but then again the Bears' seemed to choke as well. In all fairness; they did end the season looking like they were getting a hang of things with their new boy Jay. It is a tradition though for the Bears to let you down under these circumstances though. I say Bears choked worse. Denver just had some lucky victories.
