Default Cleveland got a steal in the 1st round.

    Quinn goes to the browns.

I couldn't agree less Dan. The only reason he was even drafted in the 1st or 2nd round at all was due to potential ticket sales and name value. I could come back and give you a novel on all the reasons that he doesn't even stand a prayer in the NFL, but suffice it to say if he wasn't the pretty boy leader of Notre Dame he would have received absolutely no scouting attention. I used to be fairly active in the scout reporting game, and Quinn wasn't even on many of my acquaintances' top 10 in terms of talent this year.

I really didn't think he'd be taken until the 2nd round (I offered action on this if given 2-1 odds), but I figured if he was selected earlier it would be a team picking him solely for initial potential marketing purposes. The Browns have been through the Tim Couch thing and know full well that Quinn doesn't have a snowball's chance at remote success, but I'm sure the average Joe with little comparative pro football knowledge plus a few heartstruck females will certainly boost the Browns' promotional efforts for the next few months at least. This was a throw away beauty pageant pick love them or hate them for it....

I have to agree with you BBD.

    I disagree, BBD.

I disagree mainly because the Browns gave up next year's 1st round pick to move up 12 spots to get him. Cleveland's 1st round pick next year could be a top 10 pick! That's a pretty hefty price to pay, even if you've got Quinn graded as a top 10 talent THIS year.

Basically Romeo & the Browns are pinning their franchise hopes on Quinn. He may prove to be the real deal, but that's a lot of pressure to put on a rookie QB that a lot of teams that needed a QB didn't want. IMO, Charlie Weiss did a great job of selling Brady Quinn, maybe too good. The Browns overpaid unless Quinn becomes "the answer" in Cleveland.

Quinn is going to suck. I think best QB out of this draft will be Stanton.

I can understand your argument owned. However, I think he's going to be fine as a pro though. The problem I see he might have is that he plays for the Browns.

i dont think browns losing next years first round matters. they needed this and they needed it now. quinn is going to be a leader for this team and i actually think he'll have an exceptional first year. not a huge browns fan, but thomas and quinn are a great first round for a team of their stature. GO PACK! they did o.k. in the later rounds

I'd love to know briefly how you reach your conclusions.

I thought Ryan Leaf was a better prospect than Peyton Manning. I saw Peyton as just a name recognition type "choker." Ryan was a much better athlete.

We all know how THAT went.

Being a Lions fan, I hope your right. But I don't think so.

I think Edwards will be the best, but honestly, the second round QBs are much more set up to be successful IMO.

Yeah, giving away picks is always a good policy.

Someone needs to explain to me why Quinn is the next coming. More importantly, how he can step into this situation and become superman, as a rookie no less. There might be flashes with weapons like Edwards & Winslow to help him, but it's still sub .500 for the Browns in 2007. This team is still many pieces away from contending. That's why you can't just give away big pieces like #1 picks so easily.

As a Miami flipper Fan, I have to applaud the new staff for passing on Quinn. I also have to say what the F for the the receiver they took who is hurt and if you have ever seem him play, he will not be an elite (worthy of a number 9 pick) receiver in the NFL because if you have seen any games with Ohio St. he can not beat the jam on the line.

I'd have to agree with Slacker on this point. I don't think any team would use a first round pick, and give up next year's first round pick, on a throw-away pretty boy pick to help boost sales among teen girls for the next few months. They saw something they liked in Quinn and they went for him. Quinn has a better chance than Couch ever did and he could end up surprising a lot of folks...

I'm guessing that the Browns taking Quinn also has something to do with the Weiss-Crennel connection.

I listened to Weiss in several radio interviews before the draft bragging Brady Quinn up and down. Weiss said something to the effect that Brady Quinn is somewhere between Peyton Manning & Tom Brady. I just can't buy that.

I was curious what happened to that extra pick that Cleveland sent to Dallas to move up 12 spots to get Quinn. Dallas used Cleveland's #1 pick in 2008 to get Felix Jones. But Dallas could have taken Rashard Mendenhall, Chris Johnson, Matt Forte, Ray Rice, Jamaal Charles, etc. Also, Cleveland's original spot in 2007 was used to take Kevin Kolb after Dallas traded the pick to Philly.

So, Cleveland could've basically not done the trade and had Kevin Kolb and a RB from the list above rather than Brady Quinn.
