Post Giants @ Saints (pick and write up)

My biggest problem capping this game is that this is really the first 'real' test that the Giants have faced. If you look at performance this year the two teams are fairly similar. Giants have scored 30 points per game while giving up just barely over 14 points per game, while New Orleans has scored 36 points per game giving up only 16 per game. The main difference in these stats isn't the numbers, its who the numbers came against. Giants have played 5 games, and I would argue they have yet to play a quality opponent. Washington looks horrible, Dallas is barely squeeking by Kansas City these days, Tampa Bay is winless, Kansas City is winless and Oakland is just horrible. The Giants should be 5-0, the only real test was Dallas in week 2, and Romo looked horrible in that game. On the other side of the coin, New Orleans has beat Detroit who isn't great but they are better than most of the Giants competition, Philadelphia, a horrible Buffalo team and the New York Jets. Its a no contest if you look at the dredid "strength of schedule" in this matchup, the problem comes from the fact that I believe the Giants could still be undefeated with a much harder schedule.

A great deal of people are going to point out how much better the Saints defense is this season, but lets look back at that Philadelphia game, this renewed Saints defense gave up a crazy 371 yards passing to Kevin Kolb. If Kevin Kolb is able to throw the ball that well against this defense, why should expect something different from Eli Manning. Fact is its all going to boil down to wether or not the Giant's defense is going to be able to stop the Saints offense. The Giants are going to be able to score, I would guess somewhere in the range of 24-28 points, now can they hold New Orleans to something similar, and we just don't know. The Giants haven't had to face a real passing attack yet this season, thier one test against Romo, turned out to be a dud simply because Romo has turned out to be a dud.

All in all I can't wait to watch this game, I am just not sure I want to bet on the spread....but now lets talk over and under!!!

I am in love with the over here, both offenses are airbound and will put up the points, I am not sure either defense is going to be able to stop the opposing offense. The number is set high at 47 and is the highest of the week, but it should be, if just look at the averages of each team's points allowed and points given, New York Giants are responsible for 22.5 points per game, while New Orleans is responsible for providing 26.5 points per game. It should be a 48 point game using offenses that are worse than these two. I expect a blowout here, they are in the dome in New Orleans so we have no weather to worry about. Look for lots of passing, both QBs will go over 300 yards and the scores may both be over 30 as well.

No bet on the spread from me, but a couple of units on the OVER.

U MAKE SOME GREAT POINTS BG BUT I WAS LEANING da other way on this number of coarse i mainly only take unders. the way i see it is gmen use there physical o-line and there big banger 2 chew up the clock and wear down saints much improved d. jacobs hasnt been gettin the yards or tds but has had more and more carries every week i look for that trend 2 continue and for gmen to own t.o.p. also think that best way for saints to slow down that pass rush is to run the ball and short passes as gmen have not been great against the run. either way should be a great gm to watch w the winner being top dawg in the nfc at this point in the season anyway

Good write up, I'm with you on the over. And I'm leaning on the Saints, taking the home team here.

BG Booth you have to cap this game completely and this is what I mean. In that Philly game Kolb did throw for a lot of yards but you know why??? Because they were playing from like 20 down the whole game. The Saint defense was sitting in a prevent. You have to look at the small things like that before you say what kolb did.

What about the RLM? 67% of action on the GINTS yet the line moved to 3.5... hmmmm..

I like the Saints here at -3.5! The Giants secondary is not great.

I'm worried about Miami and Atlanta. The Saints will lose to one of them.

I am not sure that I agree with you on this one...I did look at that game. Like I said in my write up its the one game that really can be used as a barometer. But you are wrong with your statement...

At the end of the first quarter they were down 10-7
At half time they were down 17-13

It wasn't until the third quarter that the score started to get away from from the Eagles, but it was still only a two score game going into the fourth quarter.

Now if you wanted to make an argument that Kolbs numbers are inflated due big plays, there were a couple, mainly the 71 TD to Desean Jackson, but still 391 to a back up quarterback has to bring up concerns.

also jello, you are right on that point, but my thoughts are when i see an elite matchup at -3 for the home team that there is hay to be made. that is a white flag from the Oddsmakers because they are not sure where the game is going, and then they can adjust the line according to the money coming in. giants have been money on the road (i think 6-2 ats last year) and as a dog, but the saints take this one by 6-10 points in my estimation.

The foot injury to Manning will limit the Giants offense in what stacks up to be a big score-fest. I look for the Saints' Bush to take advantage of the Giants No. 15th ranked rush defense and win this one at home on the ground.

Gave up the 16.5 on the Giants last week...I have the Giants to win the Conference and the Superbowl in futures...I will sit back and just watch this game, should be a good one. If I had a gun to my head and HAD to bet this game I would take the Giants and the under. Both teams have solid defences (IMHO the Giants D is better, NO has improved a lot) I think this game turns into a "running game match of wills" The Giants will try to pound it all day and the Saints will have to run (which i don't think they'll do very easily) to set up the pass. As always, field position will be huge in this one. I see a lot of play between the 30 yard lines vs TD's.

Good Luck with your bets guys!!!

I'm probably not going to play this one, but it's hard to turn down the Giants getting points in any game. Sometimes we are guilty of over-analyzing these matchups. For me, it comes down to whether the Saints are really this good. We all know what we have in the Giants. (This is similar to last night's college game where I think Cincy is proven to be a more viable commodity than USF and that thought process payed off there). Are the Saints really what we think they are though? I don't think I'm willing to pay to find out, but I am looking forward to watching this one as a fan of the sport.

The Giants defense is weak when you spread them out, that's how the lousy Cowboys scored 31 points on them. And I will tell you this, If the Giants gave up 31 points to the Cowboys well I really see the Saints doing some damage on the Giants defense. The Giants secondary is just not that good. I really can see 38-17 type game.

***Those young receivers will not be making those big plays on this Saints defense. Sharper will be hawking them!! Also in case you guys didn't hear Eli has always had bad games when he faces Sharper. Sharper has numerous of pics off of Eli!

I am a little confused...I would think that bush would do better in a better pass rush. Bush is best used in a draw, screen, delay oustide running offense. HE would be more successful against a pass rush .

And you don't think the giants have one of the best pass rushes in the NFL? I do. Couple that with being ranked 15th against the run and that looks like a "Felix Jones" kinda day for Bush.

Former Eli Manning tormenter Darren Sharper gets turn with Mark Sanchez
    0 Comment
October 5 New York Daily News

    Share Article
"Darren Sharper loves New York and its quarterbacks.
The playmaking safety has feasted on Eli Manning in the past and Sunday he intercepted Mark Sanchez twice, returning one pick 99 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the second quarter to help the Saints beat the Jets, 24-10, at the Superdome.
In his 13-year career, Sharper has 59 interceptions - with nine coming against the Giants and Jets, including three of his 10 touchdowns.
"I guess I like the big city and big lights," said Sharper, whose second interception came at the New Orleans' 32-yard line with 4:20 to go to end any hope of a Jets comeback. "It could be coincidence, but I enjoy playing against New York teams. The real reason is maybe like six years ago, (the Giants) tried to offer me a contract and it was a little bit bad so I kind of held a little grudge."
Sharper laughed after saying that, but he usually has the last laugh against New York teams. As a Viking, Sharper had one of the four interceptions Manning threw against Minnesota in 2007 and returned it 20 yards for a score. Minnesota returned three of those picks for touchdowns.
And in 2005, Sharper had his first three-interception game, against Manning, and returned one 92 yards for a touchdown. In 2004 with the Packers, Sharper snapped then-Giants quarterback Kurt Warner's streak of 127 straight passes without an interception.
Sanchez became Sharper's latest victim when he tried to hit Dustin Keller in the end zone on second-and-8 from the Saints' 15."

Z.... whatever credibility you have in predicting outcomes is completely negated when the game involves LSU or NO.

    And you know this man.

Very quick D-Line and more importantly line-backers for the G's/// I think Bush is VITAL for NO this weekend, I say the GMEN shut him down,,brees will be forced to throw over the middle in this one. Whatever happens..should be a great game, cant wait!!!
