    he's never really succeeded as a starter even after multiple chances, but he's an excellent backup to have. pretty strange career overall.

    i could see him getting another crack at a starter's job this offseason. there's just so many terrible starting qb's in the league right now.

    Matt played like a stud for us in college, but the one hurdle he never cleared during all the time I've watched him was that panic mode that set in for him on third downs or other make or break situations. In my opinion, those sorts of deficiencies are the province of sports psychologists to remedy, not the traditional coaching staff. It doesn't surprise me at all that with the resources of an NFL team behind him now, he's found the counseling necessary to rid himself of that baggage and develop into a legitimate NFL QB.
