Default Questions like, Will a sportsbook ban you if you start winning?

Hey, this is a great site. Thanks for reading my post and for any replys.

I have started handicapping MLB. I haven't made any real bets yet. It appears that I have adequate skill, or maybe I have just been lucky. Probably the later. I keep telling myself, it can't be this easy. I fully expect to start losing once I start playing for real.

Still, I think I am going to give it a try.

I have starting looking into this online sportsbook thing. So, it isn't that easy. This is what I have found out:

    1. Wikipedia sportsbook article says "The United States Justice Department claims that wagering at offshore sportsbooks is a violation of the 1961 Federal Wire Act."

    2. It is a hassle to deposit money into an account.

    3. It is even harder to get money out of an account. What is the deal with that? A well run sportsbook should be making 5 to 10% on every MLB bet. If a gambler were able to accumulate a large amount, why does the book need to dribble the payout over weeks? I suppose it is because they can. But in a competitive market, I would think some sportsbook would come along and not so cheap.

So, my main question: If a gambler starts winning a lot on MLB moneyline bets, will the sportsbook ban the gambler from playing? And if so, why? Again, it would seem to me that the sportsbook would be making 5 to 10% on these bets regardless of who wins.

    1) Dont worry about it.

    2) Use **, ** or a V-I-S-A Gift Card

    3) Use a reputable book ( I recommend Betjamaica or the Greek)

    4) You won't get banned from a reputable book, but it is conceivable they will reduce your limits

    5) Best of Luck

Depends what book you're using. The mainstream ones are unlikely too because it can damage their reputation

    What Warriorfan said

As for a Sports Book making money regardless of who wins, would only be if they could actually balance the money and unfortunately they do not. Now the bigger Sports Books (Pinnacle) don't worry too much about it since there are far more people that are on the losing side than on the winning side. However, at smaller books, a sharp could really do some damage if he is putting down a lot more money than the average bettor. Hence the reason for low limits, to restrict the sharps from taking them down.

The main thing that will get you banned or limits reduced quickly is betting steam. To sports betting, steam betting is like card counting at a black jack table; most casinos will kick you out.

    Anyway, Best of luck,

I have and account a BETPHOENIX I keep on winning and winning and withdrawing loads of money then they reduce my limits to 250.00 per bet. It went from 1000.00 on NFL and CFB down to 250.00. Betphoenix are a scum book dont use them.

Your limits will very likely be reduced...but if you are betting lower amounts to start with, shouldn't affect you too much.

If you win significant amounts you may well get limited at some books, but it does depend on the book. However, when starting out this is the least of your worries! Not losing it is the first priority!!! Plus with the number of books out there if you got limited occasionally, just move on to another company.

On security, provided you bet at a reputable outfit you will get your money out even if it does take a little time.

I am also suprised that the average sportsbook makes it such a hassle to recieve a payout. They are more than happy to accept a deposit. Seems like they do everything they possibly can up until not paying. Regardless play at solid books and you won't have the problem. If you are a constant winner betting high amounts you will get limited and eventually shown the door. Best thing to do is find a few books and spread it around.
